Japan's new plan to beat deflation: more baseball
---Can more baseball save Japan -- or at least Abenomics?---
(Reuters) | May 20, 2014
A set of recommendations to lift growth in Japan's economy drafted by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's party seen by Reuters calls for slashing corporate taxes, reforming public pensions, and -- in a curve ball -- increasing the number of professional baseball teams to 16 from 12.
"Prosperous baseball teams could strengthen attachment to regional cities and help local economies thrive," said the report...

...
But most professional teams survive in Japan because losses can be treated as tax-deductible marketing costs for corporate sponsors, such as such as Orix Corp and Yakult Honsha Co.
For that reason, one expert was skeptical of the economic punch from launching new franchises.
"Unless there are companies that are willing to sponsor the new teams, this could be difficult," said Munehiko Harada, professor at the faculty of sport sciences of Waseda University...

The batshit crazy ideas just keep on comin'

Cause you know...entrenching people in a regional biggotry mindset is obviously working in Asia on the country level.

Abenomics is allegedly all about changing people's mood and expectations. If people can only be persuaded to think the economy is successful and growing then all the economic woes will melt away. Japan is back! More baseball teams is just more cast iron evidence of that.

In the meantime, has anyone worked out where all that extra money he created has gone? He doubled the amount in circulation FFS. Where is it?
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

You are probably right, via the banks. Apart from the chunk they are duty bound to lend back to the government for ten years at 1% that is.

It all gives the fresh water economists something to muse on anyway. And the salt water ones as well.

creating more baseball teams is half ass way of doing things... trying to get more locals to blow money at ball games, corps "donating" money to the teams, more stadiums to be built and maintained, blah.

could be more better things to put money towards, but politicians don't have a warm part in their worm infested heart to even think about any of that.

I'll put in an application for the "FG Failures", need a way to launder the vast piles of 1man notes accumulating in the cellar of the FG Hills HQ building.
