As for otaku in french... I don't know these days... using the english "no life" seems to be the norm. But since it's used against anyone having hobby or occupation different from catching/spreading chlamydia by fucking every whore in the hood it's a bit diluted. And it's frankly used by a dying breed. The whole highschool jock never really catched up because being good at sport mean jack shit in french schools/universities. It wasn't a worker's paradise, not all hobby were cool
