Dude, I'm still being told by the locals it's "unbaribabuuu" that the US could be ranked higher than Japan in soccer. At 46th place, Japan isn't exactly setting the bar so high but when called out on it, "FIFA Ranking doesn't really mean anything anyways." reeks of that oh so endearing stubborn mentality. Ignore everything, if I don't admit defeat, I'm not defeated!! Soo yeah, (over)confidence doesn't seem too shaken...

The Australian team had a tough draw and had a lot of new players. Out with the old and in with the new. Good for the future and I don't think too many people are that disappointed. Unlike the UK....

The ball is a different shape but the Uruguayans do have a history.

Meanwhile...
The online bookmaker Betsafe had been offering odds of 175-1 that the Uruguayan, twice banned for biting, would sink his teeth into an opponent during the World Cup in Brazil. Sure enough, more than 100 gamblers decided that it was worth a punt.

I am horribly disappointed with Suarez, he is a talented player, when he scores you can see why it is called the beautiful game. He makes more money in a day than we earn in a year. So why does he do this while he represents his country. My guess is he has a form of Tourettes.

For sure, Suarez was armed to the teeth.

Fortunately for Uruguay, they won by the skin of his teeth.

It was a victory fought with tooth and nail.

And the funny thing is, after the match Suarez even tried to bite Chiellini's head off.

File this in the "I don't this shit anymore" department:
World Cup 2014: Alberto Zaccheroni resigns as the Japan coach
• Italian takes responsibility for group stage exit
• Coach: ‘I decided the tactics and how we play’

theguardian.com, Wednesday 25 June 2014 16.59 EDT
Alberto Zaccheroni stepped down as the Japan coach on Wednesday after taking full responsibility for the Asian champions’ group stage exit at the World Cup.
Japan’s dismal campaign in Brazil ended with a 4-1 defeat by Colombia as they finished bottom of Group C with only one point after an opening defeat to Ivory Coast and 0-0 draw against 10-man Greece...more...

Japanese TV Show: Japan Will Win World Cup Match Because Colombia Tend to Lose on Tuesdays

This entry was posted on June 23, 2014 by tokyodesu, in News and tagged Colombia, Football, Sport, World Cup. Bookmark the permalink. Japan are currently third in their World Cup group, having taken just one point from two games, and must beat Colombia in their final group game on Tuesday to have any hope of qualifying for the knockout stages (and the opportunity for fans to clean up the stadium after more than the standard three games)

Despite Colombia having proven themselves as formidable opponents with wins over the Ivory Coast and Greece, fans of Blue Samurai have no need to worry. A Japanese TV show has identified a pattern that means Colombia are almost certain to be defeated: They usually lose games played on Tuesdays.

In the past four years Colombia have only lost four competitive matches - against Argentina, Ecuador, Venezuela and Uruguay – three of which were on Tuesdays. As if this wasn’t enough evidence of Japan’s inevitable victory, it’s been pointed out that Japan also tend to win on dates that end in four.

Games against Tunisia and Denmark were also lost on dates that end in four
Japan beat Tunisia and Denmark on dates that ended in four
Although the result is all but confirmed, the two teams will play out the match simply as a formality at 5am on Wednesday (Japanese time).

By all means, let us judge the value of the only true universal sport according to the peevish dismissals of an effete spastic Momma's Boy that popularised peurile escapism the way Manga popularises adult infantilism.
Not to mention how surprising it is that Josie Louise Boring wasn't enraptured by the sights and sounds of fit boys in shorts prancing atheletically. Perhaps he was talking about Women's Soccer? Now that I could get behind. I've seen slow Kentucky bluegrass move down a field faster than those heffalumps.

Syndicated columnist Ann Coulter (pointed out by a Guardian reader) wrote:* No American whose great-grandfather was born here is watching soccer. One can only hope that, in addition to learning English, these new Americans will drop their soccer fetish with time.
* Any growing interest in soccer can only be a sign of the nation's moral decay.
* Do they even have MVPs in soccer? Everyone just runs up and down the field and, every once in a while, a ball accidentally goes in. That's when we're supposed to go wild. I'm already asleep.
* Liberal moms like soccer because it's a sport in which athletic talent finds so little expression that girls can play with boys. No serious sport is co-ed, even at the kindergarten level.
* Soccer is like the metric system, which liberals also adore because it's European.

It is surprising that it's only the guy on the panel who is an idiot.

The four women make perfect sense. I especially like the reply of the black woman to the guy, where she says something like "the world cup's organization started many years ago, so it's not as if they line it up with current political events".
