Our local McD does now house deliveries for 380 Yen. Wonderful for nuggets, when it rains.

That reminds me. Friday night when I got home from work it was pouring rain and I had nothing to eat in the house. Since I happened to have a 50% off coupon for Dominos that was about the expire and didn't feel like canoeing to the super market I decided to order a pizza. I guess everyone else had the same idea because it took nearly two fucking hours to arrive. That's a long wait for bad food.

昨日、表浜海岸でサーファーがサメを確認しました。海岸付近の皆様は、危険ですので、海に入らないでください。

This is the Toyohashi City Hall.
A shark was sighted by a surfer yesterday off Omotehama Coast. All visitors are advised to avoid entering the water.

That would be this bitey shark I guess. No doubt the surfer "sighted" the shark as it was hanging off his arm.

Anyway, so far today it hasn't rained here. No sharks reported in any of the local waterways either.

I'll wait for "Some small and localised pockets of radiation were detected off Toyohashi."

Meanwhile a long and drawn out prelude to another batch of monsoon rain here.

Japan Starts Worrying About El Niño
Japan has joined the list of Asian countries worried about agricultural production as a possible El Niño weather cycle inches closer.

Its agricultural ministry said Wednesday the country needs to be proactive in preparing for “negative effects on crops” caused by a return of El Niño. Typically Japan experiences cooler and wetter conditions during an El Niño while Southeast Asia is drier and hotter. The last El Niño was in 2009.

The ministry said crops in Japan that may be affected include rice, vegetables, and feed grasses for cattle.

If it happens, this could lead to Japan having to import more rice, which goes very much against the grain. Rice is one of Japan’s most protected sectors, with it sporting an import tariff of 280% and the government also pays high subsidies to Japanese rice farmers. As a result, only 7% to 9% of the rice eaten in Japan is imported.

The last time very cold weather caused large-scale Japanese rice imports was in 1993, sending ripples through the regional rice market.

Japanese households are already feeling the pinch from higher vegetable prices due to unusually hot weather last summer and a bitterly-cold winter and heavy snow which damaged greenhouses. Though Japan is more open to imports of vegetables than it is rice, about half of Japan’s vegetables are produced at home...

On the positive side, if a major earthquake does happen in the next 24~48 hours, any fires which start will spread less quickly.

That always amused me. It is not the hair on my scalp that they should be worried about.
Past tense because I am not really a pool person, let me go free and unencumbered in the ocean. Anyone want a used scullcap?

I don't know what's happening with Wuchan's rice crop, but my rice ranch in Shikoku is gonna have a bumper crop. :)

My youngest brother-in-law has suspended all his digital graphics work in Kanto to help with the abundance and I'm gonna have to go down to help with diesel mechanical repairs* because our equipment and all our neighbors is breaking down from excessive use.

*My grandfather was a full-blown German "Meister" machinist
and I apprenticed under him for 5 years as a teenager
(allowing me to skip high school under a "distributed
education" program of apprenticeship & college).

Thanks to Global Warming the damn rice is knee high right now and we are looking at the earliest harvest on record (previous record was July 27-ish and the old average pre-1970 was mid-August).
