Why did YOU come to Japan?

Postby Samurai_Jerk » Mon Jul 21, 2014 9:07 pm

I haven't watched J TV in at least half a year since my TV broke but still works as a monitor for my DVD player so I don't care enough to buy a new one. This weekend I was drinking at my J friend’s place and got a chance to see a few episodes of YOUは何しに日本へ?. The basic premise is that they approach foreigners in international airports in Japan and ask them why they came. Then they follow some of them around during their trip. There's something about the way they keep referring to the people as "you" while speaking Japanese that I found especially grating and annoying. Being hosted by Banaman with narration by Bobby Ologun didn't help. This is not a Japan is racist rant. More of a Japanese TV sucks balls rant and I guess it hit me harder because I haven't seen any of it in so long.

My friends especially liked this fat Aussie fruit (starts at 10:28):

I know exactly what you are talking about. I had a four month stretch without any access to TV, and it was very difficult to stomach Japanese TV when I got back to "civilization." In this case, absence does not make the heart grow fonder. I became even more critical of how the programs are put together.

Is Aki Hoshino still in the spotlight ? That would make the sucking much more intredasting...

Apart from the occasional NHK's "International news hour" very early in the mornings, where they have news from all over the world, I do not watch any Japanese TV at all. It's not worth the time and electricity.

We even have free cable, almost never turn the TV on for anything other than news....the over the top (and falling flat on the other side) shit is funny for newbs but gets old fast. I wonder if they ever calculate how much airtime they waste bowing...

Guys, what is there not to love about studios created by designers who gain their inspiration while on LSD in an exploding candy factory, gurning tarento in the corner of the screen, an endless litany of ehhh! and sugoiiiiiiiiii! and constant bells and beeps and dings to underline every inane point?

This is a fascinating interview in English with Nasubi about the Susunu Denpa Shonen experience. He has some interesting things to say about television in that time, and what was going on.

I got my first dose of that just as I was learning how robotic and "must not deviate from the flowchart of rules" Japanese workers were...and immediately associated it with "This is the official and correct reaction to what you're watching."

It seems "Youは何しに日本へ" is changing the language. More and more I'm hearing the locals refer to random foreigners as "you" instead of "gaijin." I think I prefer gaijin. *WWDD?

Back in the early days, the kids would call me "hallo san". Haven't heard that for a long time, but thought it was cute.

Very clever. I got You'd a fair bit the past few visits, so I pointed out to the bartenders later that it was punch worthy rude, and they pointed it out to the You'ers, who were disappointed and as bitter as an impotent Takechan rant. Which meant I didn't have to participate in their inane BS anymore. And it turns out they know full well how rude it is, which is quite a comment on that Re-Closing of Japan we discuss here, in MYHOMO.

I haven't heard that one yet but I am quite amused at the Eigo attempts of the J-people I have with me in the US lately. I honestly think the fucked pop-Engrish they are keen on using ruins them for actually learning the language but that's their problem.

I guess if someone referred to me as "you" in a fucked way, I'd just ask why they are calling me "omae."

I'd like to think the overtly racist mentality behind this show disappeared in the West with the likes of the 1904 St. Louis Olympics (where Japanese were among the exhibits in the special Darky Games) and "Ole Zip Coon." (At least disappeared in much of the unTrumped Anglosphere <excepting perhaps Godzone, where blackface is still considered humor and many Zuid-Afrikaans and Rhodesians feel comfortably at home, especially in the extremities>, considering "civilized" Europeens still throw bananas at players of African heritage.)

I'm getting too old to get riled by tripe like this. I try to just accept Japan for what it is and get on with living. It kinda reminds me of when I babysat my mate's badly retarded sister when I was a kid. She was a deaf, dumb, blind mute with cerebral palsy who essentially had no idea of what was going on in the world outside of her own. She started panicking, screaming and crying and I had no idea what to do. I desperately thrust a baby's rattle in her hand and she was mesmerized by the ringing of the bell. She stopped drooling and waved the rattle around, laughing and squealing in delight like a pig in shit. As long as I blocked out the peripheral noise and accepted the fact that she was going to be something of a handful due to her severe retardation, I could leave her in peace with the rattle and get on with whatever I was doing.

It took a long time, but I eventually realized this incident was a gift to teach me how to deal with the Japanese (including their aptly named idiot box).

what did you gaijin dudes come to japan? plain and simple(and also even classic here in fg.com  )
its to recover your lost manliness which you failed to acquire in your childhood in your homeland by being treated like a cockroach or a hairy caterpillar by your countries women. but you pretend to be a "cool" guy or a "tough" guy while fabricating your pathetic past "career".
in addition sadly what makes japanese/yellow womens legs easily open is your racial or cultural background rather than your own personal attraction. if you believe you actually can make their legs open by your own personality rather than by your racial/cultural background, you should be able to do the very same things in the countries where your racial/cultural background is not effective. but you can not do it, needless to say.
are you dudes really happy that those japanese/yellow women approach you for your racial/cultural background, NOT for you yourselves? eh?
you fellows havent yet recovered your lost manliness. you still remain to be a "charisma".

Absolutely. That's pretty much precisely why I came here and stayed. And I got paid for being white. I even got a chance to work in management for a major Japanese company for a while, being a boss of Japanese (didn't end too well).
I have a shitty personality and get nervous around women, but have always batted above average in Japan, even now as a fat old man. I really shouldn't have had the chance to proliferate the gene pool, but fortune smiled on me pretty much for the reasons you've pointed out.
Back home, I needed either youth or money to attract women. But here, all I needed to look like a stud muffin was a Japanese male that she could compare me to and I'd win nearly every time. Could you blame me for doing that? I'm sorry, you can only act on the opportunities presented to you. I wish you got laid more and could be happier. I think even Jesus would have done pretty much the same things I did if given the same choices (mind you, he's a Middle Eastern male and properly a bit more of a rigid Catholic than I was, so I reckon he probably would have done more buggery than I did.)
Japanese pussy is generally nice, Take. I sincerely hope you get to experience a real live one some day.
