Punch Drunk Rub

Drunk honeymooner punched male stewardess

Kenji Okamoto, who is Japanese, pleaded guilty Friday to interfering with the duties of a flight attendant by assaulting and intimidating him. ...

Okamoto got upset when one of the flight attendants wouldn't take his meal tray away, the court document said. The flight attendant told him his hands were full. Okamoto allegedly "threw a roundhouse type punch" at a flight attendant who intervened in an attempt to diffuse the situation. ...

The Delta Air Lines flight crew told authorities that Okamoto later apologized while crying, remained calm for the remainder of the flight and eventually fell asleep.

After crew members restrained him in his seat, "Okamoto apologized for his actions by repeatedly saying 'I'm sorry' and bowed down on his knees and placed his head on the floor," the complaint said.

During an interview with authorities, Okamoto said he's in the construction business and was "drinking heavily because he was celebrating his honeymoon with his wife ...

U.S. Magistrate Kevin Chang initially allowed Okamoto, 30, of Kyoto, to be released on $50,000 bond, but Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy Hino appealed, arguing that Okamoto didn't disclose a previous conviction in Japan for assaulting a police officer. Hino's appeal provided photos of the Okamoto's near full-body tattoos, arguing that Okamoto is a flight risk and a danger. ...

Because he was arrested at the airport, he never got to enjoy his honeymoon, which was to be spent at a luxury resort in east Honolulu, Hino said.

He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison when he's sentenced on Sept. 22.

Let's see ... construction business, covered in tattoos, previous conviction for assaulting a cop. What could all that mean?

Anyway, I'm curious how this guy managed to kowtow while restrained to his seat.

Delta Airlines? I'm taking the Yak's side on this one. All flight attendants on Delta and United deserve to be slapped around.

Why rub?

I'm inclined to give the guy the benefit of the doubt too. Although the twinks working as flight attendants do tend to give much better service than the lumbering old bags with wide hips.

Why rub?

Even in that line of ... errrh, business ... by age thirty he should be over the thing about enjoying bossing people around and making a scene. It sounds like he is just projecting the treatment he gets back at the "office," which once again by thirty he should have graduated from. Will not go far.

Ehhhh, I don't think many of them graduate from this behavior. Seen far too many retirement age J-dudes literally kick and punch their subordinates....and the subordinates just turtle and take it. :shake: I still give him bonus points for attacking the police.

U.S. District Judge J. Michael Seabright granted the appeal to keep him held without bail at the Honolulu Federal Detention Center.

He faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison when he's sentenced on Sept. 22.

Whoa! No bail, held in detention for over three months after his guilty plea awaiting sentencing. He flies first class (well, it was a celebration) but then uses a public defender. I wonder would this kind of thing usually results in a fine or custodial sentencing.

All I can say is, "Aloha!"

That is indeed a long ass time in detention....but if using a public defender is any indication of his tactics, he may be taking the Globalite approach of refusing to pay for his one way ticket out of the country. Lying about the previous conviction may also have triggered further investigation. I can help but wonder what his new bride thinks of all this

He said the incident happened "like a flash," according to the court document, and that he doesn't remember what exactly happened but that he was upset because he felt like he was being disrespected when the first flight attendant wouldn't take his tray away.

:keyboardcoffee:

Delta banned Okamoto from flying on the airline, according to Hino's appeal.

I wouldn't be surprised if he figured admitting guilt and apologizing would get him a slap on the wrist since his crime was just being drunk and disorderly and he probably wouldn't be in nearly as much trouble for the same thing in Japan. Anyway, he's just lucky they didn't decide to charge him with terrorism.

3-month sentence for Japan-Hawaii flight assault

A Japanese man received a three-month sentence Tuesday for a drunken altercation with flight attendants during a trip to Hawaii for his honeymoon.

Kenji Okamoto has been in federal custody since the May flight landed in Honolulu, missing his honeymoon that was to be spent at a luxury resort in east Honolulu, but allowing him to serve more than two months of his sentence. He's expected to be released in a few weeks and will return to Japan, said Salina Althof, his federal public defender.

[...]

Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy Hino [...] argued that the ordeal was dangerous, having taken place near the cockpit and involving a struggle with three flight attendants and a passenger. The pilot was informed of the situation and believed there was an emergency, Hino said.

But U.S. District Judge J. Michael Seabright said there's no strong evidence "that the aircraft was in danger through the defendant's conduct." He noted the flight wasn't diverted, and Okamoto made no threats.

[...]

Seabright previously granted prosecutors' request to keep him detained without bail. Prosecutors argued there's a possible gang affiliation, by submitting photos of Okamoto with nearly full-body tattoos and providing information about a past conviction for assaulting a police officer in Japan. Okamoto owns a construction business, Hino said.

"There's absolutely no evidence of that," Althof said of the gang allegation. "In fact, the National Police Agency of Japan had no information on any affiliation between Mr. Okamoto and organized crime."

[...]

The sentence includes a $3,000 fine and a $100 fee. The judge also agreed with Hino that the airline that is willing to take him back to Japan should be notified of the conviction and be asked not to serve Okamoto alcohol.

Through a Japanese interpreter, Okamoto apologized and begged the judge for leniency. He bowed his head twice.

That's only fair.

He was likely shagged in jail...
