Whatever type of cat you do get....my advice is: DON'T get a Siamese. My mother had one for almost a decade and it was THE most unfriendly cat in the history of cats. The only people who were able to pet the blasted thing were my mother, my father ('cause he did most of the cooking at home, so the little tramp of a Siamese would hang around him waiting for food) and me (sometimes). When I brought my wife home (on our honeymoon)---gosh that sounds so 1940s "when I brought the wife home"--anyhow, when she entered my parents apartment the first thing the cat did was hiss at her. The whole two weeks we stayed with my folks the cat would growl & hiss when my wife walked by. Some sort of rivalry going on I guess! Granted it was one of the most beautiful cats I have ever seen (those blue eyes..). Still you're better off with a Burmese.
Better yet...buy a chimp and train it to do the household chores, get the groceries and make fun of the NHK man/woman when they come to visit!!
Enjoy the cat (if you get one)

The way I see it, both serve a usefull function. In New Orleans I have a Black Lab (her name is Belle) for hunting/protection and a Norwegien Forest cat (Gabby) for affection.

I much prefer cats for pets, but a dog can be usefull. Here in Japan, though, dogs are pretty much out of the question.

The last cat I had it had a genetic problem. Well it was simply a midget. I stayed kitten sized all it life. I was on holiday for just about 3 days and decided to do the good think and i gave it to my grand mother. 3 days later I came back I was expecting my grand mother to visit but no visit. A few days went past and nothing I went to her and got the news. She let it out side and it was run over. For years I was extreamly carefull as the cat was extreamily delicate. On another note its name was Vienna after the cat in 'rising damp'. Despite it was a he I think Vienna is a girls name.

It so bloody hard to find a midget cat too.

i had a siamese..they are temperamental, yes..mine always thought my bed was hers, and if i woke her with a pet, or a scoot-over-and-share-the-bed, she would quite simply attack. as the owner before us had declawed her, she modified her attack by sinking her back claws onto my leg, drawing blood usually, wrapping her front claws tighter than you would think she could also around my leg, and biting the fuck out of me. the only way to get her off was to grab and throw, and you had better have somewhere high as fuck or a blanket to hide under ready..and shed attack you over the blanket too. until she got sick of it. she is beautiful tho, but now is losing all her fur and getting skinny as hell..when i was eight she was like three at least, and im 22 now so shes one old grandma..but..she just, i wouldnt give her up for the world, i understood that she had bitchy days, thats what chicks are known for right? =^_^= (ps im a chick so i can say that) but really, maybe siamese are not so much, a cat for people who like blind affection..you have to earn it, as with any good cat=^_^= thats my opinion on the subject, anyhow...i cant have a kitty where i live so im kind of in withdrawals..i had at least three or so all through my life...at many times even more

I have to say to declaw a cat is a terrible thing. It migh be a pain when they are young. But you wouldnt remove a childs fingure nails because it scratches its face and sometime other people when they get a little older.

Anyway I have seen a few siamese cats for sale in tokyo. and a few specialised breeds. I know a few breeds come in a grey/purple colour. I have seen a few that have the same body as a siamese but this colour. Actualy they even look skinier than a siamese more like a rex but i dont know any rex that comes in this colour? Any Ideas on the breed?

Just been reading a diary at KURO5HIN About a geek who has a new kitten.

To my horror I notice she barely touched her dry kitten food, I decide she must be hungry. First I try normal human milk which she drinks. Then I run down to the grocery store and get adult dry kitten food, a small carton of so-called cat milk (low on lactose), and one can of wet salmon catfood.

Its so funny I wonder what woman he used to get the Human Milk from.

I think of that midget cat all the time. But they cant breed so its unlikley I will ever get one again. But my goal is to get one og thoes blue / purple cats. IT may be an Abyssinian or an Oriental or even saimese/buramese. I looked at the cage and it said PAPA was the breed in katakana. BUt i am not sure at all.

and if your kitty just feels too naked, you can spruce up his or her look at CATPRIN
http://www.petoffice.co.jp/catprin/english/
CATPRIN, a tailor for cats. Ever imagined dressing up your lovely cat into a fabulous beauty? You don't have to dress her everyday, in fact she might not feel comfortable with a dress on for days. Just dress her up only on special occasions like her birthday, takes a photo and that should leave you lots of memories and fantasies.
