Gloria's pretty broad across the beam there, I grant you, but the fat fajita manglers I was thinking of are outside Japan, and speak English (of a sorts).

Not saying it's true but my theory there isn't just off the hip or limited to Nissan....Toyota seems worse actually:

Nissan Gloria, Silvia, R'nessa, Teana, etc.

Toyota Carina, Nadia, Sofia, Tiara, etc etc.

Then there are the downright dirty ones:

Nissan Moco, "moco" in Spanish means "snot" or "booger".

Mitsubishi Pajero, a a pajero is defined as one who masturbates in Spanish

Mazda Laputa ,"la puta" in Spanish means "the whore".

Honda CRV-EX, hope this one don't need explainin'

Nissan Homy Super Long

and since the brownies can't have all the fun:

Honda Fit(ta), "cunt" in swedish and norwegian

Today's bonus fact: Kagome, sounds like the phrase "I shit myself" in Portuguese

Dunno if this is the reverse case, but my mother insists on pronouncing "tofu" as "とふ" (with a very short 'o'), despite my best efforts to convince her that the way an English speaker would pronounce it (teaufu) is actually closer.

I remember that, but Robin in North American seems as close as we're gonna get, and certainly closer than the Moomin character name the Japanese have given him. Is the 'bb' in Dutch like a double consonant in Japanese though????

Dutch pronunciation always confounds me.

The 'bb' in Dutch means that the vowel before it is pronounced in its short form (like the 'o' in 'on'), as opposed to the long form (like the 'o' in 'oven'). The 'bb' itself sounds the same as 'b'.

http://www.kao.co.jp/cape/

Had seen it spelled "KEEP" on some bottles...makes sense for a hairspray I guess....but then the katakana is ケープ ...that silly romaji again....but seems like someone finally figured it out as the website now says "CAPE" .....but then someone else came in and went a step further and came out with CAPE KEEP and 3D CAPE Extra KEEP:
