Don't know if it would even be a worthy risk. Japan is the opposite of Mexico... Mexico would almost be a normal place without the gang/cartel/mafia.
In Japan, it might be more important to jail everyone of their politicians first... After that, the Yaks are not exactly hard to weed of. Easy to ID witheir stupid tats, finger cutting and overall megalomania, only excessive due processe keep them in business... Like if they were needed to take the blame or justify some police force budget...

Taking on the yaks feels like blaming Renault or Ford for an oil spill at sea...

Just curiosly: what does the Executive Director (?? ) of this supposed Japan University have to do with the 2020-s?

Also, is JA a bit of a douche or is it just me being a curmudgeon?

It's in the article.

He is in the organizing committee of the 2020 Olympics.

You are on one board, you are on plenty.
Same guy is a Vice President of the Japanese Olympic Committee, and is also President of the International Sumo Federation, and Vice Chair of the Japan Sumo Federation (the amateur body).

With all those board meetings to schedule, you would think it would be hard to fit in a chat with a yak.

How about yakking with a yak? Or maybe yakking with a yak?

(Presumably the former definition is English, while the latter is North American English).

Zaha Hadid says Tokyo stadium criticism is "embarrassing" for Japanese architects :hehe:
dezeen.com | 8 December 2014
London-based architect Hadid was selected to design the 80,000-seat Japan National Stadium in 2012, following a restricted-entry international competition judged by a panel that included Japanese architect Tadao Ando.
In October last year, Pritzker Prize-winning architect Fumihiko Maki organised a symposium for Japanese designers including Toyo Ito and Kengo Kuma to protest against the size of the design in relation to its surroundings in Yoyogi Park – alongside Kenzo Tange's iconic 1964 Olympic stadium.
Fresh criticism has since come from Arata Isozaki, who said the stadium will be "a disgrace to future generations" last month following a redesign of the scheme.
"They don't want a foreigner to build in Tokyo for a national stadium," said Hadid, who also designed the Aquatics Centre for the 2012 games in London. "On the other hand, they all have work abroad. Whether it's Sejima, Toyo Ito, or Maki or Isozaki or Kengo Kuma."
"The fact that they lost is their problem, they lost the competition," said Hadid. "If they are against the idea of doing a stadium on that site, I don't think they should have entered the competition."
Zaha-Hadid.jpg
Zaha Hadid has hit back at the Japanese architects criticising
her Tokyo 2020 Olympic stadium design, describing them as "hypocrites".
"I think it's embarrassing for them, that's all I can say," Hadid told Dezeen.
"I understand it's their town. But they're hypocrites."

Is she related to that scary looking White House press lady that passed away sort of recently?

Image

Wow. Her design (or redesign???) is almost as ugly as she is. It looks like a child's rendition of the landing craft destroyer saucers from Independence Day. The ones that Randy Quaid figured out how to destroy before turning into a drunken paranoid lunatic.

Why on earth did they allow foreign proposals anyways? Is that some sort of rider on the award of the games?

EDIT: I just Image Googled it. I think I'm onto her scheme. It's an overblown bicycle helmet; one of those gayish ones with the peaks and swoops that mountain bikers tend to wear. Yet another step fom the Replicant Nanny State as it promotes its insidious agenda of comfortable numbness.

Just googling the other submission and scrolling through them, most are pretty terrible. Hadid's design was definitely the best of the ones I saw.

That's pretty fucked and if true, I hope more details come out so those assholes lose work overseas in the future.

Abroad, sure, but on the national hallmark stadium!!?????? Why on earth would anybody anywhere hire a fucking foreigner for a national monument type piece?

Sounds to me like she's trying to cover her (fat?) ass for designing a POS nobody likes.

it seems like what she said tickles your gaijins' persecution complexs toward J-society.
but its just because her design is a bit too big and not harmonized with the surrounding scenery, not because shes non japanese.
her design always has a lot of excess fleshes like her body. that type of design is not fit with confined robotic Tokyo scenery.
so her design should be aborted even if j-side must pay penalty money for contract bleach.

The Olympics are total horseshit--Just do the minimum!

You are forgetting the main point: THE EXISTING FUCKING STADIUM FROM 1964 IS MORE THAN ADEQUATE*.
All that is needed is a minor addition to the existing stadium to include more elevators, toilets and better concessions. The actual number of seats of the new proposed station and the old stadium are about the same.
fuck-olympics.jpg

*(Just follow the strategy of 1984 LA Olympics that simply upgraded the 1933 Olympic stadium at a minimal cost.)

I don't use much bleach but I have never found it expensive. I used to use it to clean combs but then I just kept my hair short so I have probably had the same bottle for a few years.

Anyways, the Desert Witch's design was the best of the competition? Yeeeks. The others must have been real POS. Did everybody go all Miyazaki Hayao Meccano or something? Anyways, hers sucks camel poo too. As Takechinchin noted, it fits the surroundings like a Sumo wrestler in a doll's house, and the design itself is lame, stereotypical and so overwrought it's bland.

Choko,
Are you sure this isn't just another attack of the that usual kneejerk Why Don't They Do What We Tell Them thing you get periodically? And by periodically I mean every time there's a news story involving Japan, Japanese and a foreigner or foreign thing.

BTW, she sounds like the one squeezing sour grapes, not those perfectly legitimate criticisms of that monstrous POS. Is she actually a regarded artchitect? That stadium looks ridiculous.

Taro T,
Oh. Yeeks. They could have just upgraded an existing facility but chose to tender a new one? Is the old one not decrepit? What are the plans for it?

Anyways, she looks far too much like Helen Thomas for anybody's good and her design is crap.

The biggest (and I think only, apart from the access and toilet and money making kiosk facilities as mentoned by Taro) problem with the old one is that it looks like it was designed to look modernistic in 1964. This is apparently not acceptable in 2020.

Yeah, I couldn't figure out WTF she meant by that either so I reread it. She seems to mean that the fact that they are criticising her work at all is what is embarassing for them. She seems to have as much trouble with English as she does with architecture.

Let me point it out to you...

chokonen888 wrote:That's pretty fucked and if true, I hope more details come out so those assholes lose work overseas in the future.

That's what she claims and her argument "If they are against the idea of doing a stadium on that site, I don't think they should have entered the competition." seems pretty reasonable and supports her claim. I also don't buy into the "doesn't fit in with it's surroundings" bullshit cause the same could be said about Skytree or Tokyo Tower...it's a fucking massive stadium...it's supposed to stick out. I drive right by the site a few times a week and to be honest, with the way the streets/building around it are, you wouldn't even know the current stadium exists at street level, if not for the FC Tokyo soccer advertising. At least the design looks futuristic, some of the other designs hardly look newer than what's there now and would be an even bigger waste. BUT I'm not going to jump on board the racial bandwagon with what's been reported on thus far and I thought I was pretty clear???

Anyhow, you see what I mean about the competition? As someone who does design shit everyday (not architecture, mind you) her design is leagues ahead of the competition, Japanese and otherwise. As far as what I thought should happen, I agree the preexisting stadium should have just been upgraded.

I do wonder how they would've built the above stadium.

That would involve moving a massive amount of soil to realize it.

More details http://www.designboom.com/architecture/ ... -proposal/ less soil than you first think.

I thought I was being clever thinking it was like a kofun-gata stadium, but apparently that was the original concept. I rather like it, but I don't think it would have reached sufficient maturity for 2020, not that that should fatally kill the decision.
