Maybe we can take this opportunity to suggest few thread sorting.

First grouping the FAO in their own folder.

Making tinkering a folder including the current thread and at least the daily whip thread.

The 'general' folder makes me think of my socks drawers... You can find anything... Even socks if you spend enough time...

Was thinking of that, too one of these days. Some kind of "hobbies" sub as a sanctuary for tinkerers, pet lovers, model railroaders, whiskey connoisseurs etc.

Yes, a Hobbies sub would be very good, with a DIY subsub, etc.

My thing is finding videos on how to do things when there is a lack of Japanese goods for the stuff you would do back home. That's kinda my hobby now.

Yes, same here, obviously...

So a "local equivalent" thread might be nice to list all the acquired knowledge on this field...

Depends on size, but the local home centers around here usually have some.

I assume that's for plumbing, as opposed to smoking ...

you can make a damn good cheese cake... you can't even buy the ingredients for decent Mexican food over here.

But ya... cheese cake factory bomb as fuck if you haven't had some home made in a long time. I get me some good ol' pies of all kind made by some country folk. Can't beat that!

I seem to remember being able to make decent tortillas by using some secret mixture* of medium flour (中力粉) and corn flour. Maybe they weren't "right," but they were damn good.

* It's only "secret" because I can't remember the proportions ... sorry 'bout that (although I do have it written down somewhere).

Costco seems to have some seasonal cheesecakes which are actually pretty good. They're not oversweetened as back in the states yet not bland like what you often encounter here.

I hope you mean corn meal: cornflour can have a very different meaning. (Is Yoko swapping his birthright for a mess of maize potage?)
Speaking of maize meal, IPU can probably find something workable at a Brazilian shop, and can get his beans there at the same time.
Brazilian Portuguese for maize meal: Fubá
Finding a Brazilian supermarket: the really good ones stock the fresh cheese I referred to the other day, and the cheesemaker's website helps you find stockists by location: http://vilmilk.jp/cart/stores.php Enter your postcode and how far you are prepared to travel.

It is an American use English and British use English issue.

Cornflour is the ambiguous term. What the US calls cornflour, the UK calls maize flour, and what the UK calls cornflour the US calls corn starch. It is probably best to avoid the term here where it is unclear which you are referring to, and to take care when buying it in shops with English language labels.

I get it too and I also took a pretty long break mainly because of Coligny but also some other less egregious posters (does every other thread have to degenerate into a "lemur" discussion). I've never called for Coligny to be banned because it's not my forum and I don't have to visit FG if I don't like it anymore. Also, I don't know whether or not he's ever been privately warned to tone it down. If not, there's no reason to ban him. However, I do think he's gotten away with things other poster wouldn't have because some people on here know him in real life. McTojo is a douche but he never spammed this forum and his creepy posts were generally topical.

I probably wouldn't have posted a screen cap of a private message among moderators. However, if the moderators' general consensus is that Coligny is hurting the forum and if yanpa really does feel like we're better off without him but in the end nothing has changed, I get why cstaylor felt frustrated enough to do it.

FAO Coligny

Postby Yokohammer » Tue Nov 25, 2014 4:28 pm

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, so I'm not trying to change any minds here, but for the record here's mine:

To me this comes down to crazy or dishonest. I can deal with crazy, but I fucking hate dishonesty. The member who's name is the title of this thread is just crazy, whereas the other activity-restricted member mentioned above is a liar (and a pervert). To me that's night and day.

Simple 'nuff. Feel free to disagree.
