I think Neo you may be stepping over the line a little, though I do think that some of Robato's comments are uncalled for. Maybe he should explain what he really meant by his comments on the empire, england etc.
Robato, I'm sorry you misunderstood me. I am not defined more by my ancestors than by my own life past and present. But I do think knowing where you come from and who your ancestors were is important. Your culture defines you, and culture is not just where you were born, grew up, and live. Culture is also passed down the generations.For example, while I do not think that past oppression of Jews should be used as an excuse for Israelis to oppress others, I know that my jewish forefathers and foremothers were persecuted, and the fact that some of them got away means that I am here today. What the deeper significance of that is to me today, is for me to think about. However, it most certainly plays a role in who I am. I do not speak out about fascism, racism, bigotted atitudes simply because of my ancestors, but I realise that my heritage plays a role in who I am.

Good for you. Honestly. However, maybe Benjamin Zephania feels the need to use his talent to speak out about issues he cares about, rather than just settle down, have a family, a decent job etc.
The idea that he is making a lot of money out of his poems is irrelevant. Actually it's not. The money he makes, he can use to further the causes he believes in. His fame is also useful for the same reason.
I believe everyone of us is responsible for speaking out about what is wrong with society, and harm done in the past, so it won't happen again. But what you do is your own choice. No-one should judge you for prefering to get on with your life and being successful.
