Hell he got nominated for an academy award a few years ago for a movie that only had him in 90% of the scenes. If you don't know who he is, you're really not paying attention (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Oh, right, he was The Armcutter.

Once i WATCHED HIM RUIN Planet of the Apes I gave up on him. He seems like a bit of a douche in private as well. Some sort of Pedobear games, as Wagyl's link mentioned (hilarious link, Wags). Probably drinks craft beer and eats Authentic Ethnic Food to boot. I get enough of those fuckwits just walking downtown.

Mind you, apparently he has or is working towards a PhD though, which can only serve to wetten the cat ladies even further; they love hobby degree holding sensitive males that do it for the passion of knowledge. It's probably a mildly gay discipline, and I think it's only a US private university but even a hobby degree is more impressive than most of the gibbering monkeys in the movie scene could even contemplate. I predict he goes full Richard Gere by age 44: start your gerbil stories here.

Sony's PlayStation store suffers suspected hack (again...)

Sony’s online PlayStation store was inaccessible to users for part of Monday in the latest possible cyberattack on the electronics and entertainment company.

Sony Computer Entertainment in Tokyo said Monday the problem lasted two hours but has been fixed globally. It said the cause is under investigation, but there is no sign of any material being stolen.

Last week, the computer systems of Sony Pictures Entertainment were disrupted by a cyberattack and confidential information including unreleased movies was leaked on the Internet.

North Korea was among the suspects, but it has denied responsibility.

Thanks to the hacks we now know what Sony Pictures really thinks of Adam Sandler.

"Need to improve the creative staff in Motion Pictures," wrote an unnamed studio exec. "Seems like we just reboot old product instead of coming up with new ideas like the Hunger Games. We need new fresh ideas that can drive franchise product. Go out and hire the best.

"Be more focussed and ruthless in directing our resources to businesses that will sustain the long term health of SPE -- networks, broadcast TV shows, new movie franchises, digital distribution By the same token, stop or reduce support for areas that have no more value (Sandler movies, DVD)."

[...]

"There is a general "blah-ness" to the films we produce. Although we manage to produce an innovative film once in awhile, Social Network, Moneyball, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, we continue to be saddled with the mundane, formulaic Adam Sandler films. Let's raise the bar a little on the films we produce, and inspire employees that they are working on the next Social Network.

[...]

"In TV and Theatrical, I hope management looks closely at the money spent on development and term deals to ensure efficiency. There are a lot of term deal personnel as well as creative personnel, yet we only release a dozen or so Columbia Pictures a year, for example. And will we still be paying for Adam Sandler? Why?

"It is commendable that SPE understands/supports the importance of risk-taking, particularly in how the we pick films to greenlight. However, the studio needs to change deal structure that has been in place with Happy Madison, as this arrangement has disproportionately benefitted Adam Sandler and his team, relative to SPE."

Doesn't everybody but Adam Sandler think the same about Adam Sandler? Not the man himself; he seems quite personable.

His movies are more formulaic than Laurel and Hardy or Chaplin shorts. Except this isn't 1923. And don't get me started on how he abominated The Longest Yard (even though Semi-Tough was a vastly better movie, as was the Warren Beatty football QB dies and comes back movie)

Technology news website Re/code reported on Friday that Sony was investigating to determine whether hackers working on behalf of North Korea have launched the attack in retribution for the studio’s backing of the film “The Interview,” which is to be released on Dec 25 in the United States and Canada.
The movie is a comedy about a CIA attempt to assassinate North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The Pyongyang government denounced the film as “undisguised sponsoring of terrorism, as well as an act of war” in a letter to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Sony Canada to close remaining 14 Canadian stores
Sony Corp. is closing all of its stores across Canada.

Sony made the announcement Thursday, the same day U.S. retail giant Target announced it is pulling out of Canada.

A Sony Store employee confirmed to Global News the company is closing stores in the U.S. and Canada.

“Sony is getting out of retail,” he said. “We’re shocked but it’s all for progression.”

Sony is expecting to post a nearly $2 billion loss this fiscal year.

About 90 employees will be affected by the closures.

In a statement to the Ottawa Citizen, Sony said it would close its 14 Canadian stores over the next six to eight weeks.

Sony has locations in Toronto, Ottawa, Vancouver, two in Quebec and three in Alberta.

Sony launches smart glasses — weeks after Google pulls its own attempt
Sony has launched a pair of smart glasses, just as Google is deciding what to do with its own connected eyewear.

The SmartEyeglass, made by Sony, will be available from March 10 in the UK as well as Japan, Germany and the US. It will cost €670.

Sony’s launch comes weeks after Google halted sales of Glass, taking the product out of its experimental stage but making no clear commitment to start re-selling it. Glass’s cancellation came amid much speculation about whether consumers would ever take to smart glasses worn on the face.

Sony’s glasses offer much the same features as Google’s. They connect with Android smartphones, and the show text, images and information on a small built-in screen, superimposed over the real view.

They are built into a slightly less obvious pair of glasses. Where Google’s eyewear had much of the computer components built into a box on the side of the frame, Sony’s glasses are bigger and wraparound the face.

The company will release a new version of its kit that allows software developers to make apps for the glasses.

As well as displaying images and texts, apps can receive information from the phone such as geographical location and inputs.

Developers have made a range of apps for Google Glass — mostly using the screen as a way of displaying notifications, similar to smart watches — but development has mostly lagged behind expectations as the glasses have failed to take off...

Sony's New Memory Card With Premium Sound Termed As "Stupidest Product"
TechFrag | 2015/02/21
Sony recently announced a new memory card with unique characteristics, which the company thinks make it worth $155.
What are these characteristics? The memory card is able to provide “premium sound,” according to Sony.
You might be thinking, “what in the name of Pluto does a memory card have to do with sound?” Well, it produces less electrical noise while reading data...
...
the memory card is not worth anywhere near $155....you could get the same amount and speed of storage for just over $30. Of course, only Sony’s new card is emblazoned with the golden-lettered “for Premium Sound” tagline"...
...
The latest storage device is basically a 64 gigabyte SR-64HXA micro SDXC memory card. Sony believes that producing less electrical noise would result in a premium experience to the music enthusiasts who might use the card in their media players. However, media players read the songs only when reading them into a buffer from where they are played. So there is not much disk accesses during the time songs are being played.
