I think I've broken my Brachialis

Postby kurogane » Sun Dec 21, 2014 4:01 pm

Hey,

I have been having some rather serious arm pain in my left upper arm, specifically the flat outside part just below the shoulder muscle. It feels like a muscle tear/nerve pinch type thing. Anyways, having ruled out minor stroke/cancerous tumour/mild heart attack or body snatcher invasion I think I will try some heat rub to see if that doesn't help a bit.

Anybody have any specific brand recommendations? I am thinking a sort of Ben Gay / Mentholatum type rub, as I can't see an ice rub doing any good at this late point and that was all I could find in my last try at the local drug store.

As usual, any sarcastic jibes and the usual abuse are all welcome, as would be any suggestions for a good stretch or method of heaing and pain reduction. It actually really f'in hurts

Apparently there's something called the "medical profession" whose practitioners are known to provide qualified advice in these kinds of situations.

In situations like these, I personally had better healing progress with the local TCM Chinese than the usual Japanese yabuishas. YMMV, though. As yanpa suggested, I would abstain from DIY unless you know very well how to use your cautery.

The ones in Seoul med university are top. The clowns in Japan... Not so much... Can really trust their vet though.

Personnally i tape some winter self warming disposable pouches. My left knee have nerve/locking issues that are beyond painfull and make my whole leg dull at times. 2 rings of 3 patches over the knee (1 ring for the lower one for the upper part), burn for few hours, but after that I can almost walk again... Folding is still a no go though...

Thanks gramps. I was thinking about a Sekkotsu or Seitai thing, but I think I will go to the hospital first, then proceed. I was hoping somebody knew of a good Rub A535 type cream or rub to at least get some pain relief. The ones I saw yesterday were all Cool Ice types and they cost 1500 yen, which seems a bit much for disappointment.

I think it's just a standard issue Fuck I'm Getting Old complaint. I might well have pulled it from a really big sneeze the other day.

I suppose I could try a heat Shippu as Coligny suggested. I'll look when I go for groceries.

long term passive aggresive abuses by J-ppl make you think like that. and you cannot use "口コミ(word of mouth)" from your neighborhood because of your fuking poor japanese skill in spite of long time stay here.

The only thing I could recommend is something I buy in bulk in Germany whenever I'm over there, which is marketed as a rheumatism plaster but which provides relief for joint pains and more importantly hangover headaches (small patch on the back of the neck works wonders). But like I said, only available in Germany.

Hokkairo kind of work in an emergency but are hard to keep in the right place.

The local hangover prophylactic is ukon, which is ucchin in the local tongue, and the ucchin-cha sold in vending machines usually gets a few chuckles from naicha tourists.

Thanks guys. I couldn't find any of the usual mainland brands down here so I went with the one on sale. It seems to provide some pain relief, though it's definitely Cool not Heat. ANyways, if it feels like this tomorrow it's off to the island hospital I go to consult with one of them Physician types. Hmmmphhhhhhhhhh

Any bets he tells me I have pulled something in my arm and it is common amongst people my age? At least I might get some horse pills.

Thanks again.

Take,
That was dumb even by your standards. The only way to find good TCM guys is by word of mouth you twatfart. Sekkotsu too.

Sometimes things like a simple cold can make muscle pain and such that feels like rheumatism; the older we get, the greater the variety of ailments we get to enjoy every day. No week goes by without the discovery of new and wonderful body parts we never knew were there until they now start to hurt. Hope the nurses at your local hospital are pretty :)

Yup, Amen to that, and thanks.

I just stretched it a bit and the Kori Kori ripping crunching sound was deafening, so a muscle pull/nerve pinch from a big sneeze is what I think it is. Errrrrrrrrrrrrrrpppppppppppppppppppppppppppp

Time to go check out some nursies.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Tiger Balm.
Any time I get back-related pain (muscular or nerve twinges), I just slather on some Tiger Balm and that does the trick.
It's not as hot as Heet etc., but it does get fairly warm.

In South Africa, especially within black communities in the 1990s, Tiger Balm was linked to a superstition that if smeared by a man on a woman's thighs it would work as a charm to lure her to bed. This misconception seems to have faded in the 21st century.

Haven't seen that down here in Oki-land, but I'll look. Surprised I didn't think of it now that you mention it. I haven't used a Ben Gay type rub in years and years and years. I forgotzed.

Dimwit,
The muscle pain itself seems to be a result of a Big Big sneeze, but no, it was muscle and tendon making the noise. Hence the pain.

I had a traumatic experience with Salonpass back when the Emperor was still a genki young man..............and all they had at the local Mom and Pop drugstore was the Cool Spray crap.

Thanks though. It seems to be improving. Tomorrow will be the test. I gave up today when the receptionist told me to expect a Shibaraku length wait due to understaffing. Watching old Mock the Week series seems to help ease the pain.

Well, then all I can suggest is shots of Donan between your Buds. Available all throughout Okinawa, it hails from Yonaguni Island, the last in the Yaeyama chain. The standard version is 120 proof.

Re: I think I've broken my Brachialis

Have you ever been guilty of looking at others your own age and thinking, "Surely I can't look that old!"? Well, Kurogane was sitting in the waiting room for his first appointment with a physical therapist when he saw her diploma hanging on the wall. It bore her full name and suddenly Kurogane remembered a petite and very pretty girl with the same name. She had been in his high school class some 40-odd years before and Kurogane wondered if she could be the same girl he had a secret crush on way back then?

When he got into the treatment room he quickly discarded any such thought. This wrinkled and plump grey-haired woman with a deeply lined face was much too old to have been his secret crush... or was she???

After she examined his arm, he asked if she had attended the same High School.

"Yes, I did, she said, gleaming with pride.

"When did you graduate?" Kurogane asked.

"1959. Why do you ask?" She answered.

"Well, you were in my class!" He exclaimed.

Then that ugly, old wrinkled bitch asked, …

"Oh, What did you teach?"

Well, the obvious answer to that question is of course English...

Anyways, much better today. No more searing nerve pinch pain at every other movement. Thanks all.

I don't do Awamori anymori. I developed a Pavlovian repulsion many moons ago when it was compulsory. It would work well, I am sure.

So, the pain has migrated to my shoulder muscle and no longer has that pinched nerve burn to it; more of just a muscle cramp/slight pull. Hopefully that's a good thing. I think I'll go in anyways and get looked at.

I have an ambivalent relationship with awamori. That does not, however, extend to the Yonaguni offerings and of them I can be very very happy with Donan. If you get the chance, sample some. I recommend straight.

I have had plenty of Dohan with Donan. The smell alone is like a Clockwork Orange mental switch. I used to have to drink it to excess on fieldwork in Yaeyama, and they never missed an opportunity to drink it straight. Maybe in about 15 years I can learn to enjoy it.

Aww, bless.

Did you over indulge on the Christmas Sherry and foolishly attempt to carry an American land-whale to bed?

I recommend going to the local baths and having one of the young hotties give you a massage to release your nerve. It might not work, but who cares, eh?

Well, it might not fix the arm, but I think it would work in a way we can both appreciate. Hubba Hubba

Pretty much better now. The swim today really loosened it up. I think it was about 24 here today. What's weird is the pain point migrates through the shoulder muscle and is now diffusing all through the whole clavicle/shoulder, but it's a nice used muscle tingle now. The Christ, I'm OLDDdddddddddddddddd!!! searing nerve pain has gone. That was nasty.
