Mac-compatible Keitai

Postby DrBru » Sat Nov 29, 2003 11:07 pm

Hi, I'm a new Gaijin looking to get a Keitai soon.
For all the ones I have seen so far, I need some proprietary Windows software to be able to synch them to a PC.
Are there any that come with Mac software or iSync-compatibility?

What network would be best when writing/receiving a few emails a day, plus a couple minutes of web browsing?
I live in the Nagoya area and don't drive around much, so coverage is not an issue.

Some phones don't support i-mode and have EZWeb or something like that instead. Are these just different technologies to access the same services?

No (the short answer)

but you only need to put the information into your keitai once.. eg vcard format which is standard across all platforms. I don't see why else you would want to synch your keitai.. I ask this in all seriousness as a keitai software head as well as a MAC head. Everything else you need for your keitai you access as downloads using the browser.

Couple of minutes of browsing?? surely you will be doing much more than that but it works on packets and not airtime.

Any of the networks would be fine - it just depends on the plan you use etc. Actually I was with another FG the other day and we had no trouble at Vodafone getting a keitai with plan using just a credit card for ID (no Alien card required)

Personally I would use either DoCoMo or Vodafone. I don't like WAP very much but that is just because HDML is foul!!

i-mode and Vodafone live! use similar technology and EZWeb uses WAP - new and old. The content is sometimes different depending on the content provider as some just list with some companies and some list with all of them.

vCard, yeah that would do it. But how do I get a vCard file onto the phone? Could I just put it on my website and download it?

I am leaning towards Vodafone... are prices online the same as they are in the shops? My alien card is ready to picked up, so I should be able to get one without a problem.

Beam with Ir... just my vote!!

But just do what most people do.. gather the phone numbers of people when you meet them and put them straight into your phone.

It is only a pain when you lose your phone and have to put all the numbers in again..

when you swap phones the phone company does it all for you and transfers all the phone numbers across.. but you have to enter in your bookmarks and screen memos again.
