Hooked on "this old house" youtube channel...
90% of the places they start to restore are in better shape than my place. Drives me batshitter insaner by the minute.(10% are near totally destroyed by flood or fire damage... And I'm not there yet...)

Which channel for the squirting ?
And for more fun, I'm alone with the inlaws in their favorite ryokan and me julie on duty at the hospital. Judging by the amount of booze she brought this morning it's not a good evening to have an accident or need to deliver...

I'm working my way through a bottle of dark rum and Coke. I didn't lift a finger for the osoji-Kai: my father- and mother--in-law died in the past year and half so I'm the eldest male here on the Rice Ranch.

My YouTube-channel tonight is "wildernessoutfitters". Wifey was glued to "utagassen" as every year. Then we missed the 12 o'clock point. Now she made me some tea, while the champagne sits - uhm - in the fridge?

Happy New Year

And the same to you too.

Dudes and dudesses at the local jinja going all-out with the bell-thumping and drumming. Must be quite a party.

Never been this grumpy at New Year's before. Complained all the way through the truly dreadful TV last night and gave the suggestion of soba a short and succinct answer. Gave the same answer, even more emphatically, to the idea of mochi and a temple visit today. Grrrr.

Anyway, Happy New Year. I suppose.

I was surprised that I didn't hear the obligatory "Rising Sun" song until the stroke of midnight. (Fucking hate that song) But the hate keeps me warm ;)

Were you watching the "Kou-haku Uta Gassen?" It was truly abominable. Unfortunately the MIL is with us for the holidays, so it has to be on ... even though nobody is really taking notice. I sat through it in a semi-stupor, marveling at the complete lack of real talent anywhere to be seen or heard. Truly atrocious.

Edit: To be fair, Nagabuchi was pretty good. The rest was complete shite.

No fireworks, no music, no countdown, no klaxon... And this morning no cars in the street...

Is it finally the apocalypse ?

Force-fed osechi and beer by the in-laws. Off out for some more (beer, not osechi or in-laws) soon.

Yes, exactly. My temper wasn't improved by the fact that Ngabuchi's slot, which as you say the only bright spot, was taken to be an opportunity for a bit of channel surfing by my lot. I don't expect much from JTV and accept populist lowest common denominator rules on these occasions but it really was a crock. No cheer, no talent, nothing to be said for it except a lot of money spent on sets and lacklustre performers. There would be hell to pay if the BBC produced crap like that with their licence fee.

And what was that creepy upskirt camera angle into bell shaped miniskirts and coloured feathers thing? Beyond awful. Surreal in the worst possible way.
