The fuck if I know... There's a few music video where they have guitars and don't look scared of them... But what do you expect from 12yo ? Seeing them live is weird enough. They actually look like pro entertainers and if they lipsync they are quite good at it. If they autotune, the guy running the console need a good firing. It's borderline a bitchslap compared to AKBxyz who look even moar like tired hookers not paid enough for the amount of spunk they swallow and their group-singsong where all the voices are drowned into a sort of uniform molasse.
Metal websites tend to classify their voices and incomprehensible language as just another instrument. They have 2 backing music groups (at least, the skeleton peoples and the white toga/dress peoples with the creepy as fuck bald guy) seemingly playing live. And I have yet to see them lesbo-bathing together or making you buy CD for a free complimentary hand job...

Meanwhile... They effectively have one song about loving tchokluts and one song about wanting to sleep 5 more before going to school... And the whole puberty thing seems still a bit far from reach... So, yeah... Japan...

In their concerts, Babymetal are assisted by a backup band. Originally, a pretend band called "Babybone", dressed in black-and-white skeleton outfits, mimed playing instruments to playback. From mid-2012, a live band called Full Metal Band (also known as the "Gods of Metal" or "Kami Band") progressively took over accompaniment duties and now perform all music live at every concert.

Reading what was written about them...even pretteen pedo-idolism didn't work for them in Japan until the kaigai noticed them on youtube and drank the ajinomoto kool-aid. Don't get me wrong, I'm with Coligny as far as them being less like acid in your ears than AKB....but giving them any more credit than "reality tv" actors riding the usual "OMG kawaii Japan!" bandwagon is just silly.

Japanese pop star in critical condition after fan stabs her multiple times

Police in Japan have arrested a man in connection with the stabbing of a pop star in Koganei City, western Tokyo.

Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested Tomohiro Iwazaki, 27, after he allegedly attacked pop idol Mayu Tomita with a knife, stabbing her 20 times. The attack occurred around 5 p.m. on Saturday.

The Japan Times reported that the singer had earlier filed a complaint with Tokyo Metropolitan Police saying that a man named Iwazaki had been "persistently" sending her messages over social media.
