How to look up world time from Keitai

Postby rmpfreeman » Mon Dec 01, 2003 1:48 pm

I have vodaphone keitai. Anybody know how to look up world time via the keitai. Sometimes when I am out I need to call London, LA etc and it's a hassle to do the time diffrence calculations.

technically, it does.. yay for tri-band and world service. only thing is that it will cost you about a buck a minute, and they round up.

I beg to differ.. tri-band is for GSM networks and there is no GSM network in Japan. However a phone that has dual mode Tri-band PLUS w-CDMA will work.. eg the Nokia 6650 and the soon to be released Vodafone models which I have been testing.. damn they are nice phones.

The 3650 is only GSM and doesn't have w-CDMA.. trust me on this as I have to travel to China to test on the 3650 and 7650 and the 6600.

bah, should have read the fine print :lol:
JAPAN: Special WCDMA/GSM phone required. You can rent a phone from T-Mobile Rentals as the phones are not yet available for sale. Simply insert your SIM in the rental phone and the usage will appear as a separate charge on your normal T-Mobile bill.

and it's like $2/min too :P

Just do the math.

London = Japan time - 9.

L.A. = Japan time - 17. (Or, J-time - 5 and swap your AM/PM. And don't forget about daylight savings, when it changes to J-time -16.)

Is it really that hard?

Are you always so cocksure and condecending?

As you don't know my business your answer is not helpful. 'Just do the math' could apply to alot of things we do on the computer but if there is a better and faster way why waste time 'doing the math'

Anyway is there something wrong in me asking for the this information? Are some questions not allowed?

Ahem. Condescending would've been, "do the math, stupid!"

Since you brought it up, what is your business? Doing the math to get the time in another timezone isn't like doing a differential equation, it's just subtraction. Seriously, the more you do timezones in your head, the quicker it gets. Do the same zones enough and it takes less than a second to figure out what time it is in the other place. Certainly quicker than punching buttons on your phone to look it up.

Granted, such an application for places where you're not even sure which zone they're in would be useful. But since we're talking about doiing the same two cities repeatedly, just do the math.

All questions are allowed, just don't get upset when the answer isn't exactly what you want.

Oh, and I usually am this cocksure. ;)

Sorry I neglected to answer your question..

if you have a vodafone that can do V-appli's (Java appli) go to the main menu of Vodafone live! and you will be able to download one onto your phone. There are a few to choose from but there are only Japanese ones. I am guessing that Japanese is not a problem for you.
