Minor offense?

....most of the Brazilians I know would have come close to murdering a doctor that said that to one of their children. That guy was obviously upset but not even close to what I imagine it could have been.

Hippocratic Oath is unheard of here. Dude doesn't need to be lynched or anything like that but some sort of financial penalty and losing his job there would seem in order. Can't imagine why the hospital chief would want to keep that type of scum around.

explanation about the detail from the hospital

So the "fuck off and die" was at the father, not the daughter?

I asked him to stop and he shoved me away, looked at my daughter and said 'I wish you die'. He really looked at my 6 year old daughter Sara, and said that (Kusso Shine),

So who do you believe?

If the daughter was critically ill what was the father doing giving a lecture on medical ethics on video, shot at multiple angles? Whipping out the tablet PC to record the incident would not have been at the top of my list of priorities.

Doosh or not, the medical team job is to de-escalate or defuse any situation. Yes people will be scared and irrational. If everything was fine they wouldn't be there. Still safer than dealing with an injured pet in survival mode anyway.

From what I quickly watched, it not even a noisy discussion. Don't register compared to a kid with down syndrome in full freakout outburst. (Shamelessly called the retard strength)

Given the Brazilian dude's lack of Japanese ability it's very believable he didn't really understand who was saying what to who. Either way it sounds like the doctard was being an unprofessional asshole.

Somehow I think "kusoshine" isn't on the SOP flowcharts

I'm still unsure that it was a racial thing as is being claimed...just seems like an arrogant as fuck asshole doctor that needs to be put in his place.

I'm not convinced about the racial angle either - it looks more like incompetence, arrogance and just godawful bad doctoring. From what the father said she was treated for a severe infection at the other hospital. That rash suggests meningococcal meningitis which can be a swift killer if not treated very promptly. On what grounds did those two doctors decide that she wasn't in need of urgent treatment? It would be interesting to know exactly what she in fact had - if it was MM then they did in fact endanger her life for want of a simple test that is drummed into parents, never mind doctors.

Isn't there a medical board in Japan where he can file a complaint?

That's what I was wondering. There is enough to justify an investigation on the grounds of clinical competency - never mind the appalling language. I honestly thought the hospital were going to say there wasn't a bed available or some such. But no, apparently one or both of the doctors decided she wasn't in need of urgent treatment and presumably told the family to take her home and to their normal doctor when s/he was available. She was then, according to the father, taken to another hospital, admitted and treated for a serious infection. That, if true, is actually more serious than the abusive language. It constitutes a danger to the public.

It would just be a brazillian victim, death if any could be blamed on the parents with the excuse of miscommunication. Next to 0 chances of the family lawyering up...
The confrontational aspect is super weird. Usually when they don't give a fuck they admit the patient to put under observation. Send the family home, and forget aboot it until the next shift who can then call the family back to pick up the corpse...

There is, I think Dad was chief of this for the region (reason why he half closed the clinic ages ago). But I'm pretty sure that this being Japan, they don't work on near-miss and can only get involved in case of death or grave accident.
Then chief of hospital/clinic have to go on TV to say he's sorry... The insurance pay up the minimum they can... And that's it.

from the dads words
Here, she was immediately admitted with an infection, hemorrhage in her blood vessels, a virus and a very powerful bacteria. Thank God she's fine. She's been in medical care for three weeks now, and the doctors said if help came any later, she could have died.

lies.....it was nothing more than slight degree infection.
although it seems like the brazilian dad is a pastor, its a lying pastor.

三女はその後、浜松市内の病院で、小さな血管に炎症が起こる紫斑病の疑いと診断され三日間入院した。
http://www.chunichi.co.jp/article/shizu ... 00084.html

according to chunichi shinbun, "afterwards in another hospital in hamamatsu, the third daughter were diagnosed with Purpura which causes inflammation to blood vessels and were in hospital for 3 days"

there are a lot of brazilians in west shizuoka area and part of them are gangnized or mafianized over there after Lehman shock. native ppl around there do hate them. new derogatory words are established. "ブラ公(burakou)" "ブラジ(buraji)" and also brazilian side has hostilities toward natives too. there are those piled mutual hostilities behind this incident.
i too think the jdoctor needs more strict penalty. i also think he did not use the word "kuso shine" or something if the monster patient were japanese. yeah, its a racism.

and english media in japan should inspect and cover this incident.

The ill-feeling between the Brazilian community and the native community in any of the towns where the Brazilian community is large enough to be able to function independently -- and if they have pizza shops catering purely for the Brazilian community, or shopfronts purely in Portuguese, that is independent function -- has been around since way way before the Lehmann Shock. I remember being told 17 years ago by a Japanese person to lock my car doors when driving through that bit of Gunma squeezed between Tochigi and Saitama.

Uh-huh.

I have heard some uncharacteristically nasty comments from Hamamatsu natives regarding the Brazilians in that area.

The ill will is well known.

I read something similar elsewhere but even if true, an infection that causes blood vessels all over your body to burst isn't what I'd refer to as a "slight degree." That's got to be very traumatic if it's your child. It could also be the case that the family has some sort of immune system problems that makes it worse. Without knowing the specifics or holding a medical degree, it's a bit of a reach to call the guy a liar.

I think the father has embellished his story for effect.

The diagnosis is key, if a misdiagnosis put the child at risk it is serious. But two doctors saw her and said it could wait. They took issue, tempers got frayed.

If the hospital was covering up a misdiagnosis we should be concerned, but one over tired young doctor with a potty mouth on the late shift for me comes under the category of shit happens. Mark it down, move on.

I wonder if the issue of payment came up before the cameras started rolling. Cover for children varies from place to place, some areas it is free up to elementary school, some it is subsidised after the first year. Perhaps the build up to this involved a discussion about cover or cash deposits. Not a comfortable conversation, but hospitals have to stick to their guns or why would anyone bother with health insurance.

I'm not advocating violence and personally I'd rather not get locked up just because knocking the docs teeth out would feel good....just trying to point out that such inflammatory language, coming from a physician and directed towards a sick child or their parent, is very likely to escalate the situation to violence.

For the record, I think the dad here made a decent attempt at documenting the situation (he may not have caught everything on video but pretty much had the dude admitting he said it) and while he may or may not have embellished what happened, the hospital's response seems (as usual) pretty lacking.

The chunichi article, which may be a little selective, mentions the doctor had other emergency patients to attend to, which the father did not understand.

It also uses 'utagai' talking about the other hospital's diagnosis, which I read as 'suspected'. She was in for 3 days, 3 weeks probably includes after care.

I've always been happy with the doctors here, sure some of them are dicks, but if you spent you days distributing medicine to bored grandmas, how would you feel?

Letting clearly think they also fucked up their diags.

As for money, I don't know for sure (because i'm a bit a side case). But the question of payment never seems to occurs before the treatment. AND since these guys said it was nothing, i double doubt the payment issue would have come into play anyway.

SJ, I never said anything about "Latin people" or "violent savages." You're reaching pretty far...

Do I think the average Brazilian papa is more likely than say, a Japanese papa, to get physical when being told クソ死ね by the doctor in question? Hell yeah. Does that make him a "violent savage?" Are Brazilians or "Latin people" the only ones more likely to react that way than Japanese? Does it have anything to do with race? I don't think so.
