Question for you Osaka peeps

I've got a few friends visiting soon and they want to do a side trip to Kyoto and Osaka. I've been to Osaka once about 15 years ago and I only saw Namba and the aquarium. The question is Namba or Umeda at night?

I know Namba is more shitamachi and most Tokyoites I know go there when they visit but I've heard Umeda can also be pretty good for eating and boozing. Oh and we'll be there Monday and Tuesday not on the weekend if that makes a difference.

Monday and Tuesday can be hit or miss in both. Umeda has chain places, girls bars and kyabakuras there. Nanba has some chain places (including a Hub which was formerly a Hobgoblin where some dude got stabbed at like 10 years ago), kyabakuras, foreign bars, and just normal Japanese bars. I personally dislike drinking in Umeda for any number of reasons (mostly the few foreign places have a ton of weird people, plus the odds of getting overcharged in Japanese places is too high).
