Myself, I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I kinda hate her: she's the spoiled offspring of a family that will forever be conneted with Chisso and the horrors of Minamata. Sure, Masako's smart, but her Harvard tuition was indirectly paid for by the Minamata victims.

...the Times reported Friday in a feature article titled "The Broken Butterfly."
The British daily, quoting palace insiders, characterized the life of Crown Prince Naruhito and the Crown Princess as one of "quite extraordinary human isolation."
The couple are isolated, as they do almost no regular socializing outside their immediate family and do not even have direct phone numbers of their own, the paper said.
The princess has consulted specialists and been prescribed with a low-dosage antidepressant for a breakdown ....

I listened to that this morning and the cool part is that you can hear the Prince's PLAINTIVE voice and English in 50/50 mix. His words in English don't do justice to his near crying in Japanese.

....The couple live at the Crown Prince's Palace about 2 kilometers west of the Imperial Palace where their parents, Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, live.
About 100 people live with the young couple, including four chamberlains to the crown prince and as many ladies-in-waiting to the crown princess, forming a "unique world" where they are on alert 24 hours a day.
But according to informed sources, there is no old-timer who can teach the imperial family's customs to the princess, and those at the prince's palace are a group of "amateurs" sent from government ministries and agencies....
People suitable to act as attendants at the prince's palace cannot easily be found, and it was only on June 1 that someone was named to be in charge of the education of the couple's two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Aiko....
Their messages to the emperor and empress are always conveyed through the chamberlains and ladies-in-waiting, and there are no telephone conversations between the two couples, the sources said.
