ESPN profile of Darvish & NPB

Postby gkanai » Mon May 19, 2008 4:38 pm

ESPN has a long profile of Japanese baseball and Yu Darvish. I recommend the video too.

ESPN.com - E-ticket: Dice-K 2.0

Whether the wildly popular Darvish remains Japan's best pitcher until he is eligible for free agency in five years or is posted earlier (and perhaps much earlier) for a major league team to sign depends on what makes the most financial sense for the Nippon Ham Group, and not necessarily what makes the most competitive sense for the Fighters.

Tohoku High School said Monday it has decided to suspend the Nippon Ham Fighters' top draft pick Yu Darvish from school after it confirmed a media report that the 18-year-old pitcher was smoking while taking part in minor-league spring training. School staffers will be sent in a few days to the team dormitory in Kamagaya, Chiba Prefecture, where he is staying, to ask about the matter. If suspended, he cannot attend the school's graduation ceremony on March 1. It is illegal in Japan for people under 20 to smoke.

The weeklies seem certain a split is on the cards. Darvish is reported to be frustrated by suggestions he is the bad guy. He's said to be unhappy that his wife is supposedly going out on the town with male friends when he is away. Also, he's said to find it frustrating that she's not great in the kitchen. As a pro sportsman, he watches his diet carefully but Saeko is apparently not much help in preparing the kind of balanced menus he needs.

Unfortunately they have all heard of it, but "choose" to remain ignorant:confused:

But in Japan's case, maybe it's a good thing? When all the retired elders die, there will not be much left.

Darvish has allegedly offered Saeko a one-off payment of 100 million yen and a monthly payment of 1 million yen for the children until they become adults. She apparently wants 10 million a month for the kids.

In this YouTube clip (shilling for a toy company), Darvish's wife says that their son asks "mummy" out on "dates", maybe there was some miscommunication somewhere along the line... (she has that fake nasal voice that some J guys seem to find appealing too).
And, her spokeswoman also said she won't respond to questions about the divorce.

Japan Times: Darvish earns win in first pro start as Fighters down Carp
Yu Darvish picked up his first career win in his first professional start Wednesday as the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters downed the Hiroshima Carp 8-2 in interleague play. Darvish, who struck out three and gave up two runs on nine hits, held the Carp scoreless over eight innings before giving up solo homers to Takahiro Arai and Kenjiro Nomura in the top of the ninth inning at Sapporo Dome. Yoshitaka Hashimoto came on in the ninth to get the final three outs.

Yu Darvish, major leaguer with the Texas Rangers, announced today that wrestling star Seiko Yamamoto pregnant with his baby.

Darvish (age 28) has known Seiko Yamamoto for only a few months. Yamamoto, who is an assistant coach of the women's Team USA and still competes, is 34 years old and already has three sons.

To be fair, that top one looks at least terminally retarded in all the pics I got on Google Images, so if he lasted 6 months he's got more patience than me............but yes, that one you posted there of his new He Lady seems to be the best available. I actually have trouble even entertaining the brainfucked ones anymore, never mind putting enough effort in to get wet, so hard to blame him for dumping her. Maybe, unlike you and me, he's Deep!!?????????????????

He also seems to like to shoot on goal at the season's first scrimmage, which I do not recommend, and she seems quite the brood mare. At any rate, she's a touch of roughage to be sure. Not quite as nasty as that bodybuilding He Lady Taro posted in the J Babe Thread, but pretty blech all the same.

It's so refreshing to be beyond judging women solely by their looks that we can go back to doing just that

Oh, the ex seems like a piece of work if even 0.0001% of internet gossip on her is true...but she is plenty bangable. 2ch basically thinks she was sluttin' it up for attention while he was away ant the 2nd kid is a male babysitters, not Darvish's.

Anywhooo, he divorced, left the kids with the ex and went off to 'merica with bags of money and freedom...so much potential so much fail....only to knock up what appears to be another walking cluterfuck in female form. (looking at the dates and pretty sure she was married when Yu got coached in wrestling) She had a youthful cuteness to her in some of her older pics and all but a divorce and a few kids later...not so much. I guess there has to be a trade off in skill levels for that amazing pitching...

Actually, even if she were almost hot he'd still lose. Any younger not entirely batshiite guy with talent, money and fame going for a significantly older used 4 banger always sends up Mommy Dearest signals. It would be interesting to find out if his father is younger than his mother. Most of the Ehabs I met in Kyoto seemed to really dig that. And they weren't even the creepy greaser types.

At any rate..........YUCK Darvish.

You chose just about the worst picture of Seiko and that chick on the top is overrated. Miyu Yamamoto was always the cuter of the sisters though. I remember their father lamenting years ago the he regrets that he spent so much energy teaching them wrestling that he neglected to teach them how to behave properly in their private lives which is why they're both pretty fucked up when it comes to men.

Anyway, I don't understand why any guy who is rich and famous fucks anything other than barely legal bikini models.

No fan of Saeko but yeah, the pic of Seiko wasn't doing her any favors though the reason was all the other decent ones of her were pretty old.

Ehhh, wouldn't their shitty ideas about relationships come from the pops (lack of?) affection/interaction with the mom more than "neglected" teaching from pops about behavior?

MLB clears Yu Darvish of involvement in brother's gambling ring

A Major League Baseball investigation found no links between Texas Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish and the alleged illegal gambling activities of his younger brother, Sho, sources have informed the Dallas Morning News.

According to the report, Yu Darvish was never suspected of any wrongdoing by the Osaka police, which spent more than one year investigating his brother's activities. Sho was placed under arrest in Japan in October and charged one month later.

Sho allegedly took bets on both MLB and Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) games, according to The Japan Times, which triggered MLB's investigation earlier this week. The league followed its standard protocols for any investigation involving alleged gambling on its games, according to a league spokesman, before determining Yu Darvish's innocence.
