Patient confidentiality in Japan

Postby matsuki » Mon Apr 06, 2015 8:05 pm

(or lack of)

I went to the local allergy specialist to get full bloodwork/testing done. When the doc asked me if I wanted the standard tests done or additional, I asked for everything possible. He pulled out the results of another patient's test and started explaining everything to me when I noticed the results were from my lemur who had blood taken a week before. Doc went red and covered up her name after I mentioned who's they were...obviously he wasn't trying to do anything malicious here but I can't help but remember the same scenario at other clinics...which could totally reveal some embarrassing info on one's neighbors. (most of the patients are locals, no?)

Meanwhile, i can't have my ftth dhcp lease reset at home by tech support because me Julie is named on the contract and it would breach privacy laws... Fucking planet of apes...

Did you call him doctor Zaius ? I did that once in NICU... Not even really fullfilling or satisfactory... Plus, like calling janitor Mr Spock, more insulting for the character in the movie than the guy involved...

Beam me up...

So did your lemur have anything communicable which isn't attributable to you?

Choco probably did the whole neighborhood, so whatever female patient the doc came up with, she was one of his lemurs...

This is more a case of choko's shitty doctor than it is a Japanese doctor problem.

Hehehehe. Probably. Still, reading his OP I just kind of nodded in understanding. Plausible, if not quite prevalent.

But yes, WHICH lemur was it????? Busybodied minds NEED to know.........

If allergies were communicable....

First time I used that clinic but I said in the OP, I've encountered the same situation at other clinics. Not that it's malicious or anything but I seem to remember Taro inadvertently getting the lowdown on a scummy gyaru on one of his visits.

I just got my own results back and surprisingly not allergic to much, only slightly elevated levels for cats, hinoki, two types of grasses I've never heard of and....kiwi? (WTF? I love Kiwi)

The real kicker was sugi. So allergic to that shit that it's off the fucking scale. Thank the tree gods that shit is pretty much finished for the year...

A recent little flutter was on a company that almost has a hugely improved pollen allergy vaccination on the market. Starting with grass pollen but they say one for tree pollen is not far behind. Imagine the income in Japan for a successful vaccine against sugi pollen. We will see.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Sure there are not too many of them near your planned cabin?

I was worried about that too but have never had issues there the past two sugi pollen seasons so maybe it's mostly matsu?

Play with one of my lemur's kitten all the time...lil fugger has figured out I'm warm and sleeps on me as well. Not really showing the symptoms I had a couple years ago so maybe I've overcome that one.
