I came across this website that has information on over 4000 prescriptions meds in both English and Japanese so I thought I'd share. It seems that even with the English version you can only search in Japanese but you can get information in both languages. They do have an alphabetical index in English.

If you are asking this question in japan you are probably taking the following three pills as prescribed by your J-doc:

paracetamol: a NSAID, AKA acetaminophen, same class as; Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Aspirin, etc.....

An acid reducing agent to "protect" your stomach from the NSAID

and finally Dasen or Danzen. This is a money maker for the doctors. It's main ingredient is Serrapeptase which has never shown positive effects in double blind studies. In fact, Takeda recalled all Serrapeptase based drugs in 2011 after news about its repeated failure to pass FDA regulations made it's way to Japan. Rumours are Takeda was giving perks to j-doctors that prescribed a certain amount.












My current doc tried this magic 3 shit on me a few times until I told him I have a huge bottle of Advil 300mg at home and if that can't help me neither can he. After a few x-rays to show the previous rebuilds all I have to do is call him and I can go directly to the pharmacy to pick up my american grade pain killers.

Wuchan - That is indeed fucked. (Straight up fraud and malpractice comes to mind but I think the musical chair sekinin game there is probably too strong) Makes me think the 海外の薬は日本人に強すぎmentality may be rooted in being prescribed BS placebos. Compared to a placebo, anything is going to be interpreted as strong. The allergy doc I just went to literally rolled down the list of Claritin, Allegra, Zyrtec before realizing I have loads of all three stockpiled at home. He ended up giving me ザイザル which is the more refined version of Zyrtec...and holy fuck does it work.

To be honest I am probably an extreme case. The only other person here that qualifies for my level of meds, truthfully he probably is far above me, is taro. Back when I was a teen I got hurt, badly. It was my first "taste". A few more severe injuries followed which increased my tolerance. Now I am automatic their 2 (5+mg) based on my tolerance in the USA. Here.... the fear. The best that the locals give me barely work. A person needs a permit for the medicine I need when I'm in pain and in japan and only terminal patients can get that permit. My doc does his best but he can only give me so much. Fitness; mentally and physically is all I can do for now. When I can't handle it any more, it's time to claim social security.

My doc always gives me a much stronger dose than he gives the locals because he knows what's up. I'm not dealing with serious pain though. On the flip side, American doctors tend to over prescribe which is probably what killed my 5'2" 95 lbs mom.
