McDonald's Japan puts Prison Loaf on the menu

Postby Taro Toporific » Thu May 28, 2015 5:13 pm

In a corporate brainfart, McDonald's Japan puts Prison Loaf* on their new menu.
*Mashed vegetables, meat scraps and bread or other grain fillers are blended and baked into a solid loaf to be served inmates who have misbehaved. (Wiki)

That stuff is not so bad. Like anything McDo... There is no real taste or consistency, some sort of greasy salty cosmsonaut 0 gravity food. I can't say I dream aboot it at night, but at the end of the day after no longer being able to push back meal time and the matching stomach rumblings it's a tad better than the fridge pizza from nippon ham. And much less vengeancefull in the loo the next day. I swear the main ingredients in these pizzas are hateress and laxatives.

Also, sumeone have the recipe for that prison loaf bread ? Seems like a good stuff to cook when in survival situation post zombapocalypse...

McDonald's Japan's limited edition burgers and short-lived new menu items usually suck hard.

I usually prefer the food in my plate to come to me in an undigested state... Pre digested or second hand is a big nono for me.

You are starting to be really weird dood...

:keyboardcoffee: Yes, undigested is always better for me too. Anyway, what about frittata or even tortilla espanola?

As for what's wrong with MacDonalds I don't think their problem is lack of variety or people getting bored with their offer per se. I reckon it's more to do with the execrable and highly processed nature of their food. Once the novelty has worn off it's painfully obvious how poorly even nastily made the food really is. And I reckon its getting worse and worse as they struggle to keep it cheap. Another company apparently run by a clique of old men who have lost all touch with their customers and won't listen to voices advocating a change in strategy.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Yep. That too. In more optimistic moments I'm tempted to think that people have thrown off the processed food habitude and have actually woken up to what proper food should look, smell and taste like. If it's even happening in places like the US and UK then there is hope yet.

One of my issues with McDonalds, apart from that lingering aftertaste it always leaves, is that it is not particularly cheap for what it is. Other, lower price options are more attractive.

Which is kinda hilarious since the fresh/healthy/lo carb movement is gaining speed in the US while Japan is more and more mayo this and fried that....yet "Japanese food is the healthiest!" mentality persists.

But the trump card Japan has is the fact that all through school children eat and learn to recognise and appreciate real food due to the amazing efforts of the nation's dinner ladies - unsung heroines all. I salute you. Selling something substandard to someone who really does know better is very difficult.

Whereas, in the US (and the UK to large degree) the processed food manufacturers have the trump card. Their stuff is dished up through school and then further promoted via advertising and marketing.

It is pretty cheap though. Not dirt cheap I'll grant but it is competitive with and often a bit cheaper than real food a lot of the time and if you cost in the skilled labour to prepare and cook food (from scratch rather than reheat) then it's far cheaper.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

WS - Totally agree but even that seems to be changing in the US. (I did the US bento most of the time but I do remember all the reheated frozen bullshit they served....the tater tots were good though!)

From cats to toddlers, my experience with vomit is constant, that stuff is always at least in the early stages of digestion...

Can we stop now... It's getting...
