Ax looms over fee for NTT phone line

The Asahi Shimbun The government is considering abolishing the 72,000-yen ``subscription fee'' NTT's regional carriers charge for a new phone line, sources said.

The fee is used to finance expansion of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp.'s fixed-line telephone networks, which has been made redundant by the spread of cellphones.

crazy mess paying $700 just to get a phone
