I could be wrong, but I was reading on Slate, and they stated that Microsoft was thinking of moving to a kind of subscription service for its OS, so we will have to see what happens going forward.

Here's a question I can't find an answer for..... This upgrade from 7/8/8.1 is free,if done within a specified time. That's clear. If you have any other system, you need to pay for Windows 10, that's clear. So how about the insider edition I installed on wifies old laptop? Installed from an ISO on USB

Microshaft says this...

If you want to go back to your previous operating system

You'll need to reinstall your version of Windows from the recovery or installation media that came with your PC (typically DVD media). If you don't have recovery media:

For Windows 7 or Windows Vista: Before you update, you might be able to create recovery media from a recovery partition on your PC using software provided by your PC manufacturer. Check the support section of your PC manufacturer's website for more info.

Now I neither have recovery media (no DVD drive anyway), nor did I make a recovery partition. This PC will be junk soon so not necessary. The question, when 10 is introduced, will this preview become a kosher installation? If so couldn't someone build a PC and install this preview which may become official thus avoiding the cost?

I heard that is exactly the case but I would think the preview version will no longer be available after a certain point.

The actual wording is not free forever, but free for "the supported lifetime of the device." Microsoft further say "Details on our device’ supported lifetime policy will be shared at a later time." It looks to me that they are getting ready to say "your machine is too old for us to bother supporting."
http://winsupersite.com/windows-10/micr ... windows-10 from February but I haven't seen anything to overrule that.

Once again, the Google Chrome(book) model.

O fuck, now Microsoft tries to contract me too for Windows 10.

Annoying.

Patience young grasshopper..

There are ways however. Yesterday I did a full install of the preview version on a desk top 'puter which I was using with Ubuntu. Nothing to lose as I can always go back. Same install as my first one which was running Windoze 7, but this time some extra considerations.

Because it was an OS change, and not an upgrade, a reformat was necessary thus losing drivers for any hardware I had installed. All went well except my monitor, which Win 10 couldn't see as PnP and couldn't get the correct resolution. After installing the correct graphics card drivers, all is good. And I must say, it looks good on a 27" monitor.

I'm probably going to test it on my surface first...the thing is made by microsoft so with any luck at least all the drivers and such should function for their own hardware.

Click on it.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

You are right. OP, please go back and edit your opening post for semantic infidelity.

I wasn't being pedantic. I was wondering if other people were actually being interrupted by an annoying pop up.
