And no, I've never seen glue dots here. Or blue tack for that matter. Tape does a fine job of attaching things to walls and the appreciaion of wabi sabi means the damage is no problem.

Yeah, but look at the price. And believe it or not it has come down a lot. There was someone selling special imports on Amazon Japan a few years ago when I wanted some and from memory it was about 4,000 for a small packet. And it was endaka time.

On the other hand, I think I saw blue tack finally appear on a shelf somewhere - But I may have been dreaming. Anyway, it is re-useable and lasts forever so my couple of packets imported 5 years ago are still going strong.

Can be useful for repairs when you need a temporary watertight seal with reasonable adhesion. Covers and that sort of thing.

A useful observation - one to bear in mind. Blue Tack is more for removable covers or in my case recently a temporary cover for a 20mm diam hole in the bathroom left after removing an old bath filler control unit. I'll bring a nice quality, screw fitted chrome soap dish from the UK to fit there in another two months or so. In the meantime bluetack is fine and will come straight off when no longer wanted.

I was thinking the same thing. I had one thing taxed about 17 years ago. It was a new winter coat my dad bought me for Christmas. He ordered it from LL Bean and they sent it directly to me so all the paperwork was in order. It was such a nice surprise having to pay 2,000 yen to get my gift. Especially as that was my first Christmas in Japan and I was sick with the flu and feeling very miserable and lonely. My dad was pretty annoyed because LL Bean had told him all the extra fees he paid would cover any import taxes.

Anyway, since then nothing has ever been opened and I've had big bottles of ibuprofen sent to me. Of course the parcels were labeled ibuprofen and the pills were in their original packaging so it probably didn't look suspicious on the X-rays.

All the paperwork is in order and it's as Kuro says, they are indeed simply doing their jobs...my point is that while before, they only seemed to open maybe 1 out of 5 and the other 4 passed through with no tax.... now nearly 100percent are getting taxed. They are just more aggressively enforcing existing taxes while the same is not done in the U.S. ....yet.

Who really knows? The J-cops are very selective with their arrests and recently it seems like they are only going after dealers and high profile people. Salarymen with what appears to be "meth mouth" are a dime a dozen and quite a few little birdies have told me it's pretty easy to get.

Drinking here is in your face and it seems like everyone gets tanked at least once a week. Tokyo is so crowded that if 2% of the workers in the city all farted at the same time, we would all probably die. Add to that the lack of rules and penalties when Japanese do drink they thens to drink more. Does that mean that they are drinking all the time? No. On average they drink less than the US, UK and Korea (never mind the soviets). Gaijin are the heaviest drinking group here not the salarymen.
