Glad to see it finally made the cut albeit with a noticeably more in sorrow/exasperation than in anger sort of vibe. And very little of the usual intense focus on the person, his history, his qualifications, his personality, his current activities or on the nature of the publication, the personalities in its office, its history in these matters and so on.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

The latest TV news flash is that she has resigned, and Toyota has accepted her resignation. Good too, since she would have had a hard time doing her job from behind bars...

Toyota's top female executive steps down after arrest in Japan
Toyota Motor Corp said on Wednesday Julie Hamp, its first female managing offer, had resigned following her arrest last month on suspicion of illegally importing the painkiller oxycodone into Japan.

The American, who in April had become chief communications officer, notified Toyota of her intent to resign, the automaker said in a statement, adding that it had accepted after "considering the concerns and inconvenience that recent events have caused our stakeholders".

Toyota declined to give further details, citing the ongoing investigation.

Hamp was arrested on June 18 after customs officials found tablets of oxycodone in a parcel shipped to her from the United States. Hamp said she did not think she had imported an illegal substance, according to the police.

Oxycodone is a prescription drug in both the United States and Japan. Bringing it into Japan requires prior approval from the government and it must be carried by the individual.

Following Hamp's arrest, Toyota said it believed that she had no intent of breaking the law.

Hamp was appointed managing officer as part of a drive to diversify Toyota's male-dominated, mostly Japanese executive line-up.

She joined Toyota's North American unit in 2012 and in June relocated to Tokyo, where she was to be based.

"We remain firmly committed to putting the right people in the right places, regardless of nationality, gender, age and other factors," Toyota said in its statement on Wednesday.

Five Scenarios Facing Former Toyota Executive Julie Hamp in Japan

Former Toyota Motor Corp. executive Julie Hamp has resigned from the car maker, but that doesn’t resolve her legal problems. Ms. Hamp, a 55-year-old American, was arrested last month and remains in custody after police said they found oxycodone pills in a package addressed to her. Under Japanese law, those arrested can be legally held for up to 23 days if a judge allows. Ms. Hamp’s detention period is set to end July 8. She couldn’t be reached for comment and the identity of her defense counsel wasn’t clear as of Wednesday. Here are five possible scenarios she’s facing:

The best outcome she could hope for of the 5 Scenarios, is "2. Indictment and confession" with a suspended sentence on July 8th, time served as punishment, and immediate deportation with a permanent ban on any re-entry to Japan.

A bad outcome she could reasonably encounter is "4. More time in limbo" with multiple re-arrests on additional bogus charges to "punish" her by keeping her in jail for many more months and torturing her with 14 hours a day questioning to get additional confessions. Then deport her with a permanent ban on any re-entry to Japan.

The worst outcome she could be subjected to would be keeping her in Japanese jail for many more months, and then send her to US for prosecution on her multiple violations of US drug laws.

A little unclear on this "bogus" business. She did it, she said she did it, and they know that she knows she did it and said she did it. Is there clear evidence of Replicant machinations and skullduggery???

Cops in Japan like those in many other countries loooove to pile on additional bogus charges even when they don't the apply. In Hamp's case, the 14-hrs/day Japanese questioning is trying to get her to slip up and confess to additional "crimes" like intent to distribute drugs, transport of drugs within Japan, illegal parking while in the possession of drugs while the moon is in its waxing gibbous phase, etc.

Such additional bogus charges is a bargaining ploy*, and shows that the police and prosecutors are working hard to prosecute such a hardened drug fiend like Hamp. :???:

The release of the alien, Adderall addict earlier this year still must have the J-police and prosecutors fundoshi in a twist.

The shipment arrived at a post office in Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture on June 10.

FWIW this is the post office where all international packages for the Kanto area seem to pass through and are checked by customs (at least all the tracked stuff I get is held up there for a day or two).

In recent years, traffic accidents caused by drivers under the influence of such drugs have caught the attention of the public.

Arrested ex-Toyota exec Hamp to be released from custody: Kyodo
Tokyo prosecutors plan to release former Toyota Motor Corp executive Julie Hamp from custody after she was arrested last month on suspicion of illegally importing the painkiller Oxycodone into Japan, Kyodo News reported on Tuesday.

Japan's daily Yomiuri newspaper reported Hamp was unlikely to be charged because prosecutors judged there was little criminal intent in the case, in which a family member had mailed Oxycodone pills to her to alleviate knee pain.

Kyodo said Hamp, who resigned from her post as chief communications officer last week three months after her appointment as Toyota's first female managing officer, is set to be released without indictment on Wednesday, the latest she can be held without a formal charge.

A spokeswoman for the Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office declined to comment on the report.

Citing an unidentified source, the Yomiuri said Hamp had stated that she knew the drug was regulated in Japan, but that she did not consider it an illegal drug.

Japanese media reports, citing police investigators, had said that 57 addictive Oxycodone pills were found in a small parcel labelled "necklaces" that was sent from the United States and addressed to Hamp in Japan. The pills were in packets or buried at the bottom of the parcel, which also contained toy pendants and necklaces, they had said.

I guess they didn't have enough evidence to prove she sent it to herself or that she requested they be hidden. In the end she got publicly humiliated and lost her job. Probably punishment enough. Wonder where she'll end up next. Maybe a pharma company.

So basically the conclusion was they had no case because she didn't mail them to herself? Something they could have concluded after one day of questioning her or at least after searching her apt/work place 5 days later and apparently finding nothing. (which makes me question the oxy-junkie scenario...if she was that hooked, you'd think she'd have a stash over here) The courts allowed prosecutors to keep her in detention for the max duration why? Either charge her with a crime, deport her, or just let her go if you got no case. 3 weeks of pointless detention?

Japaneeeeeze justice!

Well, I am truly surprised. I thought for sure that she would be doing time and then deported. If the prosecutors wanted to pursue it, no doubt in my mind that they could have made charges stick. And 23 days – is nothing. They could have gone for extensions.

But good for her anyway - end of a nightmare. From what I have read elsewhere, oxy is the most widely abused drug in the states these days – so she should fit right in when she leaves.

Here is a good article on oxy, and their legal problems for claiming it to be non-addictive.........

You got it backwards...23 days is max, that includes two extensions from the courts. Of course, the courts just agree to whatever the prosecutors want to do so holding her for the max is a given, whether they charge her or not. (SOP...and a pretty unreasonable amount of time to detain someone without enough evidence to press charges)

They would have prosecuted her if they had found anything at her residence/workplace/etc. Like I said above, this outcome makes it seem less likely she was a junkie. A person in her position asking her father to mail her illicit drugs, hidden under toy jewelry, to feed her junkie needs is a pretty bizarre story, even if she's as entitled and dumb as they made her out to be...but if that had been the case here, I think she would have seen charges. The fact that she was released after such a high profile situation seems to say it was nothing more than a simple matter of her pops sending her some painkillers, requested or not.

Now take a step back from this case and realize this means anyone who wants to fuck with you can get you a 23day vacation in detention just by mailing you a package with contents that are illegal in Japan. That is just fucked up.

Could we re-direct the last 6 or so posts into the Newbie Paranoid Debito Wannabes Discover Japan thread, please? Seriously, being That American need not be a mental handicap. How many weeks are you guys into your Permanent Holiday in Japan? They kept her so she knew she was being punished, so everybody looking knew she was punished for being a scofflaw, and then they let her go because there was no point in incarcerating somebody too stupid to know how stupid stupid can get (aka Ameridumb), and anything to do with motivations and intent has always been enjoyable wankful speculation anyways. This is just fat cholo Oregonian on Adderrall with a higher profile done the same way. Good for them, major applause for not going Third World (aka Americvnt) on her poor sorry ass, and all the best to her outside of Japan. It couldn't have been easy but she deserved every mofo minute her sad, sorry and painfully entitled retard ass spent in jail, and you Americans need to get a fuckin' brain transplant or something. You're the ones from the Third World. Your country officially sucks poo juice. It's a corporate military camp run by halfwits and sadists. Japan, not so much judging by this. A good and humane result to a sad and potentially appalling story.

Coligny, your country of origin is kaigai, just like everyone else here, you troublesome gaijin!

Kuro, if she really is a junkie, you don't think they would have found something? Had they found something, wouldn't they have prosecuted her? Considering all the trouble they went to, making the arrest with all their ducks in order and such, the intent when arresting was not to punish her in detention. That being said, the announcement that she would not face charges and she would be released from detention....before actually releasing her is pretty ridiculous. Hold her in there the last day or so, just because you can? It's supposed to be detention, not incarceration.

If you want paranoid, the suggestion she was framed, setup, or whatever because she's a foreign woman is bouncing around all over the place....as if somebody forced her pops to mail her that oxy.

At best, entitled idiot(s) that didn't take the law seriously enough. At worst, she's abused the stuff before and coaxed her pops to send her some USDM strength `pain meds.` Either way, no conspiracy or paranoid delusions, I just have a problem with the SOP and 23day detention, especially after they already announced they had no plans to press charges.
