I hope Penguin Books comes out with a popup on "The Rape of Nanking". I think it would really help students in Japan to learn about what their country did to the Chinese.

-You know it's funny, I'm drawing a manga for Dark horse back home that touches about that topic, and more so, the bio-chemical experiments that went on during the war. In doing some web-research, there's more to that story, Including some Mustard gas and other heinous shit that was recently dug up in china by a contruction crew. But as far as a manga about that being put out, I'm sure kodansha would have a hard time selling the book out of historic resentment, maybe in part some denial.

But back to the "Rape of Nanking", no way would that shit ever fly here. On the main point of which, if a story as such were told it would center around mostly Japanese characters with unfortunately Japanese Biases.
If that happened, I'm sure Chinese media would have remarks for such a work in looking to find historical holes..

Titles

Postby sunborder » Mon Dec 15, 2003 10:40 am

The article didn't list the titles of the articles or the new book coming out. I'm going to be picking them up for sure[even if I can't read them properly yet]. I can't do that unless I know what they are called. I haven't seen any listing for it on the publisher's sites, nor has the MDN responded to my inquiry yet. Anyone able to help on this?

If it doesn't fly in Japan, you could always try marketing it in the U.S.

It's always interesting how easy it is to get infomation about how bad the other guy is. Looking in the mirror is a little more difficult. The Japanese don't like to look at their past and if they do, not compare it to heros like Ishihara. Here' my mirror: Canadians used biological warfare to wipe out their indigenous population, split up native families until very recently and sterilized the developmentally challenged. Ok. That's enough. </rant>
