By noting that there were two threads on one topic you exposed the fact that he hadn't read the entire internet yet. That would make anyone leave with a flounce.

Don't worry you're not the only one. :???:

I think it relates to this proposal to actively scupper the Japan Times. In my personal view, the same result will occur without anybody's input soon enough.

Thanks, wagyl. I disagree with him there, and it sounds mildly loopy, but you may be right and he will get what he wants anyways.

For the sake of an accurate record, and with only a mild decrease in overall comedic effect, it appears that Samurai Jerk's real crime was not pointing out that there were two threads on a similar topic, but in providing the impetus leading to the realisation that Fuckedgaijin is a collection of gaijins.

A veritable gaggle of gaijins, in fact.

What surprises me most is the apparent conclusion that said gaggle of gaijins offers absolutely nothing of value for someone who's goal is "assimilation." But so be it. I certainly wouldn't want to impede someone's assimilation.

Hence my point about him having a Hyakuta moment. But the idea of replacing it with the Daily fucking Gomiuri which is more of a LDP newsletter than a newspaper is the thing that irked me.

Yes. Semantic inexacitudes aside, I find it hilarious it would bother a naturalised Japanese at all. I wonder if he hasn't been in Japan as long as naturalisation might suggest he has? Anyways, a good fun public brain fart.

Dimwit,
I didn't even find that a 5 on the 100-t ascale. A loopy and mildly delusional call to arms driven by what seems to be pique, but hardly a call to end press freedom like the novelist's. I have often wondered if he isn't slightly 'Publican or even Libertarian (lots of techhies are), at which point I disagree but would hardly dislike him over something as trivial as political opinions. My only real mark against Havill is he no longer really discusses like he used to; it seems more like sermons from a mount, and that way Debito lies.

I think he has been here awhile but people can naturalize a lot quicker than you realize. Especially if they're married to a J national and are considered desirable which IT engineers who speak fluent Japanese definitely are. I know a Chinese IT engineer who went from zero to citizen in 7 years and he was (and still is) married to a Chinese women who naturalized with him. I've met a few South Asian IT engineers who've done the same in a relatively short time.

Yeah, I am aware of the quick route option. I just find sometimes his attitudes and ideas remind me of a 5-ish years in naive, overly pedantic Japanophillic JET, but that timeline works as you say, and he's always had a touch of the evangelist since I've known him (online). Knowing Havill it's all Out There on record somewhere, but then I would have to care.

American re-arrested for murder of Tokyo woman
Tokyo Reporter | 2015/08/27
KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police on Thursday re-arrested an American male for the murder of a woman whose corpse was found floating in a bay in Miura City...
...
Up until this point in the investigation, Gumo had denied participation in the crime. However, he now admits to dumping Akitaya’s body but not to murdering her. “She committed suicide,” the suspect is quoted by police.

Gregory Gumo
NYCer lost in Asia.

I will be updating this soon

You got that first part right, but as to the second, somehow, Gregory, I don't think you will.

Is it not Abby Normal for a NYer to refer to himself as a NYCer???? Not as abnormal as murder, of course, but it does show a pattern. Not to mention that his profile picture looks like a window licker surprised by a large cockroach on his pillow. Maybe that's what she liked about him?

Re-arrested? They released him or WTF?

On the morning of July 29, the body of Akitaya, a contract employee in the cosmetics industry, was found wrapped in a brown plastic sheet and floating about 20 meters off the coast in Koajiro Bay. A towing rope had been used to attach the body to a concrete block.

On August 6, police first arrested Gumo, a resident of Yokohama’s Hodogaya Ward, for abandoning the body of Akitaya.

So...he didn't try to leave the same day??

You really haven't been paying attention. They officially "arrest" you for each charge. First he was arrested for abandoning a body. Now he's been arrested again for murder. Detention doesn't equal arrest under Japanese law.

I see what's going on now. Basically he was arrested and detained for the max allowable, under suspicion for "abandoning a body." Time is up and they haven't charged him or built up enough evidence (haven't got a full confession) so on paper, he's been released for the original arrest....and then arrested again under suspicion of murder. (so basically they can keep doing this over and over with without actually charging him with a crime as long as they wish...what a great system!) In that sense...I guess "rearrested" makes sense on paper but in reality, his detainment has just been extended because that type of shit is allowed here. (obviously in this case I don't feel sorry for Gumo but allowing that type of stuff to be pulled off is totally ripe for abuse) I doubt much new evidence is going to be uncovered by now so it's probably that golden ticket, a confession, that they're after and using "we can detain you forevar!" is probably a strong psych tactic.

yanpa wrote:I think Matsuki won't need to read the first three links ;)

 Don't remind me, I wish I could say Japanese prosecutors need to learn the meaning of " probable cause" but I think it's more of a question of ego/abusing power without anything to answer for or liability. Up until detention that is...but TIJ, I imagine many innocent people have had their lives ruined during those 3 weeks of detention. Sharrapu! Sharrapu! THIS IS JAPAN!

If they actually charge you with a crime, they become liable...and as we've seen, the result is only charges in cases where the prosecutor actually thinks they have the right person and can prove it. The flip side to that seems to be that once they've committed to charges, some have gone as far as to plant evidence and make false statements to get their conviction. (cause it's all about the prosecutors record, right?)

Jesus Christ your anti-Japanese sentiment is really coloring your cognitive ability. They often arrest people initially for disposing of a body because it's an easier charge to get a warrant for. Once they've gathered enough evidence for a murder charge they arrest them for that.

I am sure the prosecutor is anxious to find out how she got the water in her lungs after he didn't kill her.

What's "anti-Japanese" about not agreeing with detaining suspects for 3 weeks without actually charging them with a crime...and then detaining them again for another 3 weeks on another possible charge? I'd say the same about the same setup in any other country. (remember, there is no bail here for foreigners and it's rare enough for the locals to get it) It's punishing a suspect before they're convicted....and that type of shit can ruin someone's life....which is really fucked up if they're innocent. Considering the amount of evidence (zero) that is apparently enough to get a warrant to arrest/detain someone, I'm sure many innocent people have had just that happen.

Yeah, this dude is guilty as fuck and the case looks like a pretty easy win for the prosecutor from what we've already heard...so why have they not charged him and moved forward with the trial? Do you think they really need 6 weeks of investigation to build a case against this guy? I would put money on the cops no longer actually investigating...just dragging the guy out for all day questioning, trying to break him.

Friends and colleagues feared popular Garin Dart, 41, had been killed or kidnapped by Japanese gangsters when he vanished on May 22, leaving his pregnant wife Yukako, 38, and their child.
