Police Prepare for New Year's Crackdown on Hot-Rodders

As the year-end draws near, police gear up to bust young and reckless drivers of motorcycles and cars who are in the habit of making their way to Mount Fuji while causing havoc on expressways.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) today carried out a simulation drill to crack down on hot-rodders, who are famous for gathering from around the country and then driving recklessly on their way to Mount Fuji on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. Approximately 240 members of the MPD, including traffic riot police, participated in today's drill. The simulation included arresting hot-rodders by shattering car windows and using color-paint spray and nets...

I saw this on TV. It was funny to watch, but the cops really took it seriously (for a bunch of geriatric old farts)

I still think they treat the bosozoku with kid gloves. Maybe they're worried about court cases or something, if someone gets seriously hurt?

The cars shouldn't be too hard to hem in with a few well placed and positive road blocks. But how about the bikes...? They can get away from those nets sometimes.

Water cannon might work? Or perhaps tear gas? Then again, shotguns at close range will do the job too...

They show this every year on a dramatic TV special like the police are really taking action against the hot rodders and bozos. Basically the cops (hundreds 'of them) sit around the toll booth, get multiple inspections to make sure their uniforms are correct, shoes shined, etc. As the car gangs approach the police snap to attention (looking like proper Japanese) and run to their appointed station. The hot rodders drive on through and give the police the finger without slowing down.
After they will show the police back at the station with someone higher ranked giving a dramatic speech like they really accomplished something.
