A local agent (it was a friend of ours ... small community) brought the form to our house. When I say "form," it was basically a piece of paper with a registration code and a password printed on it that you used when going online, plus a single-fold brochure explaining the procedure. Apparently that form should be handed to you in person (for somewhat obvious reasons) by whoever your local census agent is.

You might want to check online to see what the situation is.
Links at the bottom of the page linked below might get you where you need to go.

The URL we were given is: http://www.e-kokusei.go.jp/

Edit: Yeah ... might find something here: http://kokusei2015.stat.go.jp

There's the problem. My building doesn't have an intercom so without a phone number there would be no way for a census worker to contact me. I guess a number of households in my "mansion" won't be counted.

Samurai Jerk and anyone else in the same position won't be able to do it online because the user code and password are necessary to link the reply to the residence. You will get the paper option, which isn't being distributed until 21 September (which is why they want to the online answers by 20 September).

And our research department has come through once again.

Accurate plurals in English of words adopted from Latin require a knowledge of English grammar. No one will think less of you if your pluralise as an English word. If you create a plural as you think it would be in Latin, you run the risk of being wrong and laughed at by those who know better, or you run the risk of being right and being laughed at as a pretentious dick.

Putting on my pretentious dickhead hat, the correct Latin plural of census is census. Try using that in English and you risk misunderstanding. I will burn this hat! Or else destroy it in a series of vacua (another unusual plural) And of course if we had a team of administrators here they would be octopodes.

I hate to be the one to break it to you Russell, but I think one of them may not strictly be a vagina.

so now that it's all computerized n' shit, fake numbers? soon?

It is in the government's best interest to hide any dramatic fall in numbers just to keep the investors interested.

I looked through the sheet with the ID and password on it and couldn't find the web address on it.... It was on like the second page of the pamphlet that explains everything.

Surprised it actually worked on something other than IE - tons of pages here "require" IE, yet even a lot of those think it's Firefox (but I just change the user agent in Chrome). They don't ask about income or education, but I guess those are embarrassing questions

I never received the census form in the mail. I don't really care whether I'm counted or not but I am curious if others have received it.

It was brought to us by some people hired for that.

The Missus didn't want to do it online.

I guess when you live behind some security in a manshion, they may be unable to hand it to you.

I've been in this apartment long enough that I got it before so they managed to figure it out the last time.

I received two - one where we now live, and another at my old address, even though we had moved three years ago. I called and was told to just pitch the second one. But obtaining two raised a question of how they send them out, since we had moved our family register. It seems that there must be an additional database that wasn`t updated.

Let me guess: your old address is unoccupied.
Census goes to each residence. That is the database. The census taker is required to look for places in their area which might have people living there.

Correct - but they still had my name which would have needed to come from somewhere, three years after the name was no longer officially associated.
