Jul. 1 TOKYO, Japan (Kyodo) - Toy maker Takara Co. has begun selling 77 units of its single-seat electric vehicle Qi with a design inspired by the Hanshin Tigers professional baseball team. Available for 1.45 million yen,... Takara decided to release 77 specially designed units in the Qi (pronounced ''cue-no'') series because that is the number on Tigers manager Senichi Hoshino's jersey.

Looks like a death trap :D

I wouldn't mind having one.. kind of like a power wheels on crack :D

The price tag is a bit steep for such a "toy car" :D but if you got it, why not get it. 80kilos on a battery charge is pretty nice. I wonder what the top speed is? I bet the boys at the DMV will sheet their pants having to deal with such an unusual car.. :D

Just imagine, no gas, oh the savings. You can pull up to a public outlet, and recharge :D You can find these outlets everywhere..

Stealing electricity, the new trend

Ah, I knew I'd seen that thing before (not the tiger version though). I believe there's a dealership near the Fuji TV building, and I also saw one sitting outside a store near Tokyo Station. (This was around the beginning of April.) I lost most of my pictures from the trip, and trying to explain what this thing looked like was such a pain. Thanks for the pic link! :D

It was on NHK's morning news as well as the other TV stations. Try your Japanese cable channel news for video. Too bad it costs 1.4 million yen 'cause if it was priced closer to it's cost (less the 100,000yen) they could sell a zillion of 'em as neighborhood cars.

It's so CUTE!!! (sorry, had to) Now then, the serious questions:

I wonder if I can mod it? Cause if I can't make it competitive, I don't want it.

Will they ever release a sidecar/stowage attachmet? Like a 1 or 2 seat trailer for shopping or a short taxi service maybe?

Can diplomats get an armored version from Mercedes?

Will it really help the police get back in shape? I mean, won't they just follow the guy in one of these in their squad car until it runs out of juice instead of running up and tackling the perp? ;)

Damn. Since when is COACH a pink Banana Splits lifestyle? In my antique mindset, Coach is rich, brown, buttery leather...solid as a mail carrier's bag and twice as functional. I've got my dad's 1958 briefcase that still totes notes sitting in the backseat of my car right now. Bah Humbug.

At least these'll be quieter. Kinda hard to show off by revving up the engine in an electric car.

One problem they have is that pedestrians can't hear them sneaking up from behind.

This would normally make it hard to get through crowds - but not with my proposal: Just have a little live wire around the outside/bumper of the car and, with the joys of electricty, gently encourage pedestrians to clear the way ...

Way off topic but it is toy- and Campaign-Girl related...

OK, it's old, but I saw it for the first time in a toyshop on Sunday. Is the "Bit" and the "Ch..." placed so close together deliberately ?
