There is in the world a peculiar form of vanity that sits beneath contempt. I first noticed it in London among some of my Moslem students. The portly Iraqi women who, because they had never played sports in their youth, couldn't really even walk properly. And yet they considered themselves so attractive they had to be swathed in black robes and were in danger if they were ever alone in a classroom or office with an Arab male. This is strikingly similiar.

FIFY....

Not really actually - The vanity was so overweening that they would kick off about ANY male. Not all of them of course - just a particular brand.

The covering isn`t because they would cream, but rather that they would be rape bait.

Errr, Yes. According to the women all men were a danger because the women were so attractive. A peculiar form of vanity overlooks their obvious and profound shortfalls. Like Tacky's.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

speaking about yourself and your "buddies", right?

Take a look in the mirror, reflect for a moment and you all will become clear. And you will be a far far better man for it.

Vanity takes any number of forms - And the mirror was a metaphor. Sorry if I leapt too far ahead of you - it's easy to do unfortunately.

Miraculous how much better his English is getting, though. Is Yellowface a metaphor or a simile?

Neither I wouldn't have thought. Probably Just a descriptive neologism. I wonder if a posting to America at some point might explain his little fits of fluency? Something about that hypersensitive vanity reminds me of not a few doctors I've met and they often get shipped off to the US for a few years even though their language skills are woefully inadequate. Might explain a few things.

So Tacky, are you really Japanese or not? I don't care either way but just so we know what we are dealing with .....is it a real Japanese or a convert?

I actually admire how obtuse he can be even when facing rather simple terms. At least he's putting his back into it a bit.

And Yes to the rest of that too. Funny about those porky middle eastern women. The ones like that I have met are comical they are so self-adoring. Which would be nice if they weren't also stupid and annoying.
