Prescription Lenses for frames?

Postby matsuki » Mon Oct 19, 2015 3:58 pm

So I have these sunglasses I really like but the lenses are kinda beat up while the frames are still in great shape. Although my eyes are pretty decent, it would help to have them replaced with prescription lenses. Back in LA, there are plenty of places that will do this but so far the 2 shops I've tried in Tokyo, and even COSTCO have refused :???: Sometimes it's "We only do that if you buy frames here" and others it's "anzensei"

Do any of you guys have any recommendations on where to go to get something like this done?

I tried to have prescription lense fitted to welding glasses once (with darkened fold down lenses)

Gave up...

I don't wear glasses so I've never had to deal with that but I've found business in Japan very inflexible in similar situations for other types of products. Basically you have to buy the whole set or you're out of luck. It also wouldn't surprise me if it's some kind of regulation since prescription glasses are a medical products.

That's why the eye testing are made by random schmucks instead of an ophtalmologist...

I think it is more likely to be that if they are selling the frames, they (or more likely these days, their supplier) have the model shapes for grinding the lenses to fit, but if they are trying to create the correct shape from an existing pair of frames, there is an added layer of imperfection which they do not want to take responsibility for. The chains will not do it, you will need an old, family style shop which still does their own lens grinding. I am not sure if those sort of places even exist any more.

if your dentist work behind a blue tarp under a bridge maybe you need a better one...

I have found some good dentists in Tokyo. They've all done a lot of additional training in the US, Scandinavia, or Germany though.

Meanwhile i went to an ophtalmologist this murnang for a boring left eye infection ... Certainly feline related...
And after 3 hours left with a diagnostic of "wakaranai" and a map to go to the local municipal hospital... The one i drive to/from at least twice a day...

I left so happy to have witnessed that level of incompetence again that I was shitting rainbows all the way back.
Luckily I found my nekomimi and will test my vet patience tomorrow... I trust her almost 3000 bajillions times more than the whitecoated clowns anyway...

I used a Michiko London condom once a long time ago. The lube gave my dick a rash. At least I hope it was the lube.

Sooo...no appointement available until end of november. Only option would be to wait !? All day there for... Something... !?
Asked me julie to put me an appointement at the end of the current queue for nov/december. UNPOSSIBUL !!! There's proctologue to follow... Or rituals... Or salam haleikoum... Or whatever bullshit float their boats/ego...

I think i will do a flyjin 2 days round trip to Seoul, the university hospital was top notch...

In a country were shit can hit the fan hard overnight it's not comforting to see how it's already -not- working for day to day stuff...

(They also don't have enough op rooms, I suggested she called her former army buddies -don't ask- to see if they could trade field hospital trucks for some continuous training of their guys... Apparently it would be too shamefull to go that low...)

+1 for feral wifey, if possible. Uni-clinic in Nagoya is relatively cool, they have all the sick toys and most doctors speak English.
