So I'm looking to get a good sip but there too much shit to dig around without getting buried in it.

So far I've been looking at hikari, and from what I can see is that you basically pay fleets/ntt the money for the line, but then you need to pay a provider for the service so to speak.

So are they all basically the same? I am currently using Au hikari service, it's actually adsl (I don't know I didn't sign up for it, but the contract says hikari) speeds are actually decent, but of course if I can get faster I want. I also don't seem to get harassed for upload/download amounts, and some times I download a lot of course then again I've never really checked the AU provided email address so maybe there's a few letters in there. I have experienced some slow times, but I've always attributed it to my router, and a simple reboot of the modem and router seemed to always fix the issue, woo doubt it's a case of being throttled.

So given my current experience and usage, for those in the NTT east side, what are your experiences, and with whom? I've been looking at SoftBank Hikari, because they offer discounts while using their iPhone service, but this may be a moot point since I'm also looking at changing over to an mvno that looks promising with 10gb monthly and no throttling.

The main companies I've looked at are, Asahinet, Au hikari, SoftBank hikari, ocn hikari.

Oh this is going into a brand spanking new house, so I'll have to get the damn line installed for highway robbery, but if there are ways to save on costs I'm open to the thoughts, I have my own wifi routers, which I'll probably replace to 802.11ac at some point, currently rocking n, and a secondary b/g.

As a standalone IPS option, Asahinet is good, maybe the best for engrish support---I was happy with them for years. A few years ago I switched to a NTT Fiber/Softbank ISP combo that was fast downloading (claimed 1 Gbps, more like 300Mbs) and easy.
However, just this week I signed up with a super che-e-eap Tokyu Cable/Au package with a free ISP deal bundled. The entire package has cut my family's cell phone/Internet expenses by 60%, but I have no idea whether the lower-speed, 180Mbs "iTSCOM" (Tokyu Cable) will work out.

Interesting Taro, sounds like that's all cable though and not fiber, but it will be interesting to see how that pans out for you. I. Also surprised to see you had NTT fiber with SoftBank combo, I though they didn't start that until this year, before that it was their yahoo be service.

I'm not worried about the English support so much as the other half is Japanese so I can always stick her on them if I need to.

Also as said though, might end up dropping SoftBank soon in favor of an MVNO where the price is suppose to be about 3k yen plus voice usage.

She's been with me long enough she can hold her own ground, most of the time we forgo tech support anyways and I solve the issue from my end, and tell the companies what's done and what needs to be done. Unless we get idiots who are insistent to follow the company guidebook, usually they figure out that we know our way out of a paper bag and just need them to do something on their end.

TIJ, isn't that every time? You could be an engineer and they insist on following the flow-chart in front of them...

BTW, I'm using J-Com's cable service and pretty happy with the speed. Much faster/reliable than fiber in my experience...only they don't like it when you U/L a massive amount of data in a day...despite calling it "unlimited."
