Japan loses to China once again

Postby Samurai_Jerk » Tue Dec 08, 2015 5:28 pm

China Surpasses Japan as Asia's Top High-Tech Exporter

China has brought to an end Japan’s dominance of Asia’s high-technology exports, according to the Asian Development Bank.

China’s share of Asia’s exports of high-tech goods such as medical instruments, and aircraft and telecommunications equipment rose to 43.7 percent in 2014 from 9.4 percent in 2000, the ADB said. Japan’s share slid to 7.7 percent last year from 25.5 percent in 2000. Southeast Asian nations including Malaysia and Philippines also lost market share.

The shift marks China’s success in boosting innovation and technology as key drivers of its economy as it seeks to move up the manufacturing value chain. Low-tech goods accounted for 28 percent of China’s exports in 2014, compared with 41 percent in 2000, according to ADB’s Asian Economic Integration Report 2015 released Tuesday.

"China has made inroads in taking more and more hi-tech manufacturing onshore even as a lot of critical components are still imported from other countries," said Frederic Neumann, co-head of Asian economic research at HSBC Holdings Plc in Hong Kong. "It’s becoming highly competitive, with highly skilled labor and we’re seeing increasing research and development moving into China."

Not being snippy, but are we going to be treated to a One a Day of this sort of article for the next 15 years, as a nation 10 times the size stumbles up the stairs to a second order industrial status, thereby posing an existential threat to a country that can only be described as genuinely First World unless you're being pissy or taking it? It's like watching British news from the late 60s, as they fell from the lofty heights of natural born larcenous killers to firmly inhabit the Nice Developed Country status they still seem to want to jettison whenever some stroppy brownies don't behave as ordered.

Feck..................

While I got no love for China, it's rise certainly keeps the prices of goods low through all kinds of dirty means...and eventually you'll get less shitty people coming out of there.

On the other hand, one has to wonder what the cost of the rise will eventually be. Talk about shitting where you eat/sleep....

That being said, I've had nothing but problems with manufacturing goods in China. I prefer Thailand, Pakistan, etc. Tend to be more reliable, consistent, and quality.

Out of fairness and decency I am happy to see them richer rather than poorer, but I do worry they have shit their own bed, like you said, and even the level of the development seems based on the fact that there are so many Chinese that tons of them are now richer but its being paid for by another many that may never see any of the fruit. Which is a shame. China got so royally F'ed over for so long you'd have to be a complete A'hole not to sympathise.

If China delivers quality at all, it certainly does not extend to their air...

http://www.tenki.jp/particulate_matter/ Not a lot in this season, but I could imagine that a bit comes over with the winds which bring the loess dust.
