Yesterday we had those winds and Niagara level rain all day. Boring to be stuck inside but it was impressive to watch. You kids play safe out there. Like Coligny said, if that shit keeps going and gets cold I would take a snow day.

But how many of those days actually see accumulation? That's what I was talking about. Not every day there are some flurries or snow on Mt. Takao. Plus it's not unusual for the western suburbs like Hachioji to get some snow when the rest of Tokyo doesn't.

Yes, let's move the goal posts. How about sanding trucks (or the newfangled ones that spray calcium chloride) then for the melt/freeze times, or for the sleet/freeze times, or the rain/freeze times? It's not only snow accumulation that disrupts traffic, which makes it curious as to why you shit all over Matsuki's idea.

That's not moving goal posts. In my vernacular and snow day and a day with a little snow aren't the same thing.

or not?

Like I said before, I get the logic of "only happens a couple days per year" and I agree if it were someplace other than Tokyo, it's not worth the money or effort. But then you have this many eggs in this basket(case) called Tokyo, maybe a snowplow fleet isn't the answer but I do see some sort of effort being better than none. Now that much of the snow has melted, we have black ice everywhere...and when most drivers here are terrible drivers in the rain, you can imagine the fun that causes.

That was actually just a Canadian insider joke for Mikey Ox, FTR.

I can't see the outlay and maintenance costs invovled being worth it for snow in Tokyo, but what they should do is calm the F down and learn to not assume that weather doesn't affect your daily life regardless of season. Given how much they chatter on about the weather you would think that would come naturally. If you're not setup for snow, don't drive. If it does snow a lot, change your schedule: work from home, don't work, eat what's in your fridge, etc. etc. The fact that so many can't enjoy a snow day is a sad statement of their priorities..............Call me a dreamer...........

3 days is the minimum requisite for a standard Bug Out Bag. also why it's sometimes called a 72h bag. the stuff you keep in the car... with weapons, ammo and craft supplies to make necklaces with the teeth on the locals getting in the way.

For normal limited disaster 1 week is the bare minimum.

Japan... after what I already saw... an army that can't find its ass with 2 hands and a flashlight. politicians that need to watch the sesame street special to understand with simple words the difference between an industrial fire and a tsunami or firemen apparently confused by the need for respiratory isolation gear in case of toxic environment intervention...
I'd say... nice knowing you guys... just hope the USN have a flatdeck nearby to help...

Well, you might want to try again, and buy in bulk. If it's going down to 9 degrees in Okinawa on Sunday I don't want to think what you mainlanders are looking at. Fortunately I brought my wooly long johns and my toque (Took!!!!), so I'll just stock up on Fried Chicken at Max Valu and hunker down.

Max Value energy bars. tchokluts and apples are even almost good. much cheaper than the calorie mate. keep somewhat long. Always have some in my EDC bag (every day carry. like a normal bag but with weapons ammo and stuff to make necklaces (...))
1 box - 1 meal... but need water to go down...

I am confused.

The south of Hyogo prefecture isn't forecast to get snow.

Hardly any forecast for here either. Though it is forecast to get pretty damn cold.

I think in this case, West Japan means the Sea of Japan coast and a bit inland.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Maybe they can borrow those from the U.S. army stationed there...

Word on the street is they are taking the old equipment from the 1856 snowfall out of mothballs and lubing it up to be ready for the 23 flakes that might fall.

Snow in Amami Oshima for the first time in 115 years! And not a snowplow anywhere to be found.

Snow up here too, but that happens every year. Shoveled a ton or two this morning (at least it felt like it). Fark it's cold.

Thermometer in my neck of the woods finally shows a '-' sign, even though the number is still zero, but minus zero is better than plus zero, I'll take anything I can :) But no snow flake in sight just yet, unfortunately.

We got some graupel (some are claiming snow grains), but no snow in the proper sense. But when it gets down to a frigid six degress Centigrade the locals need something to celebrate. Mister Miyagi wants to believe.

Image

Amami Oshima, on the other hand, did get some snow (and the accompanying below freezing weather).

Some digging around and it seems sleet counts as snow to the JMA, and it was measurable somewhere on the island of Okinawa. So it officially snowed. Bureaucratically speaking.

Yup. Nobody was expecting the start of a new Okinawan ski resort industry. Or even island-wide snow. Or even snow on the ground. But the first snow ever recorded was indeed recorded.
