Actor stabbed to death with sword at Japanese play rehearsal

An actor was fatally stabbed with a real or mock samurai sword while rehearsing a play at a Tokyo studio, and police were investigating whether his death was criminal or accidental.

Media reports indicated several actors were performing an action scene when the man was stabbed Monday, and no one saw what exactly happened.

Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported that the other actors saw Daigo Kashino hunched over, wounded in the abdomen, when they turned around after hearing him groan.

Kashino, 33, was an actor with the theater group in downtown Tokyo. He was rushed to a hospital but died hours later, police said.

If it was an accident, I can't imagine the person who did it didn't realize he had stabbed him. A slash might be easy not to notice but stabbing someone in the gut deep enough to kill them isn't exactly a hot knife through butter.

If it was an accident, I can't imagine the person who did it didn't realize he had stabbed him. A slash might be easy not to notice but stabbing someone in the gut deep enough to kill them isn't exactly a hot knife through butter.

Maybe you haven't noticed... but the locals are a little dense... so almost anything is possible...

A sad story, obviously, but what worries me is that ths could prove a stab to the heart of bad theatre, which could lead to deep cuts in such productions. "Oh, well....." you might say, but remember, every failed bad theatre project releases a number of its practicioners out into the general public. It evokes the mental health care cuts of the 80s and 90s.
