Are today's young really like that? I mean,it is knock-off-the-sockingly hilarous on the video but how would they ever be able to live on their own?

In grossly general terms, in the Anglosphere if they are middle to upper middle class or so and raised by nervous parents or nervous single mothers then yes, they have a mental age of about 11 in terms of independence and initiative, especially if they have never known financial need. Welfare kids raised by proper welfare warthogs can also display these tendencies. OTOH, they seem quite adept and practiced at interpersonal sensitivity and Emotional Awareness (IOW: touchy feely nancies). Having said that, lots of people Baby Boomer age and below are helpless Bambis without guidance and instruction and have emotional resilience as strong as a broken egg shell. My Theory is that dependence on pervasive intrusive technology and credulity to media cheerleading and exhortation make otherwise serviceable brains go mushy. It's part of the reason We of The Resistance carry prepaid cell phones and get our directions at the police box or the corner store. But that was funny and rather heartwarming TV.
