I have heard of this sort of thing before.

Especially notorious and evil murderers who are incarcerated often receive a lot of attention from bizarre women outside of the prison, women who want to form relationships. For example, the 'Night Stalker' of Los Angeles (1980s), really sicko guy, had many strange women after him when he was sent to prison. Didn't matter that he liked to kill people, and also rape women given the opportunity. He later married one of them. WTF?

Things are not always so obvious in Japan. The Japanese weeklies have been discussing this marriage.

Mamoru Takuma (who certainly deserves, and has asked for, the death sentence) has relatives who are trying to get land his family owns transferred out of his hands. This will prevent the families of the victims from obtaining any money by suing for compensation (and consequent liquidation of his assets) from him.

A civil case has been started against him but if he is executed before the final decision his wife will inherit and can transfer the land to his relatives because she is not named in the civil suit. It is understood she is being paid for this.

The only hurdle to this happening is if the civil case is decided before he is executed and prior to any appeal his family makes against the decision the judge orders a kari shiko (seizure of assets) so the race is on to get him married and executed as soon as possible.

The irony here is the victims families now are asking the Justice Minister to delay his execution.
