Ready for 2005 in Japan? Play Steve's Shogatsu drinking game

Postby Steve Bildermann » Wed Dec 31, 2003 7:39 am

Disclaimer:

This is for fun, folks. If you go and get yourselves drunk, that's your choice, not mine. I most certainly didn't force you to imbibe whatever it is you did, ergo it's not my fault or my responsibility---it's yours.

How to play:
Stock up and when visiting family/friends carry several large beer/spirits containers in a suitable backpack.
Get up early on Oshogatsu and start at 6:00 with the TV turned on.
Drink accordingly.

Take one drink

Every time you hear the words. 'Akemashite Omedetogozaimasu'
Every time you hear 'Honnen Mo Yoroshiku'
Every time you see a girl dressed in Kimono
Every time you see a Rooster
Every time someone says 'Oishii Desu Ne'
For every Nengajo you receive

Take two drinks

Every time you see a Gaijin on TV
Every time you see people visiting temples
Every time you eat Mochi
Every time you have to play any Japanese card game
Every time you eat Soba

Take three drinks

Every time you see some Gaijin on TV in Japanese dress
If you have to go out and watch the first Sunrise
If you watch the Emperor New Year address
If you are on a train after 1:00 AM on Jan 1st
Every time someone mentions Misora Hibari

Drink the whole damn bottle

If you are climbing Mt. Fuji to see the first Sunrise
If you watch the Kohaku singing contest

LMAO..

You'd be slammed within a few minutes of TV watching with those criteria.

My plans to be in Japan during New Years failed.

Don't feel too bad. If you have experienced it once, you've experienced it twice. The only thing that changes is the animal and the number :D

It's that time of the year folks. ! :D

Time to order in and stock up on your favorite booze and learn the rules of 'Steve's New Year Drinking game'

Get plastered while greeting The year of the Rooster

Image

Rooster (tori) --- Born 1981, 1969, 1957, 1945, 1933, 1921, 1909
People born in the year of the Rooster are deep thinkers and are always busy and devoted to their work. They always want to do more than they are able, and if they undertake a task beyond their abilities, they are disappointed. Rooster people have a habit of speaking out directly whenever they have something on their minds.

I'm looking forward to seeing a gaijin in Japanese dress, eating soba or mochi and saying oishii. That could take me out for the holidays.

I think I'll drink when I see a gaijin dressed as a rooster.

Also does coming home at the first sunrise count? :)

You would be dead from alcohol poisoning within a few hours if you had the TV on when playing this drinking game.

So how does it work if I show someone my rooster on New Years? :karma:
