Reminds me of this (and of what passed for entertainment in rural NZ in the 80's)

Yes, but the Mazda is for girls. The UAZ is right up there with the Volvo Lapplander or the Pinzgauer, cars for real men, who can't be arsed to shave :cool2:

Looks like Mitsubishi's chairman has some 'splaining to do...

Mitsubishi Motors scandal widens as U.S. regulator seeks information

Mitsubishi Motors likely used unapproved testing method on Pajero, i-MiEV

The 10 models also include the RVR, the Outlander and the i-MiEV electric car.

Welcome to the bizarro world where electric vehicle have de facto imaginary fuel mileage ratings.
And companies still manage to be found guilty lying about them.

The Bongo Wagon is the same as that era's Ford Japan something or other van, and the Bongo Friendee is the newer, bigger than that model with the funky pop top and minimal camperised version available for weekend fun. Good rides they say, but they seem way overpriced, esp. given that a Mitsubishi Delica of any sort is simply way cooler. If we could convince NorthAm hipsters that driving from the wrong side is a shitty idea we might be able to save a few for the Japanese used market. Fuckin' hipsters. They seem to have picked up on the Nissan Stagea wagon as well, poseur MoFos.

THIS

Asking the company committing the fraud to complete an internal investigation? Sounds fool-proof to me!

Other than Livedoor, has there been an Enron level Japanese corporate fraud and chicanery meltdown? Dirty, lying fat little pigfucker that he is, Horie got one thing right: he was a Judas Goat (except he was also a guilty cunt). Perhaps part of all this Time Freeze limbo dance BS of late is all the really big money playing a waiting game, waiting for the corporate house of cards to fall before they jump in on the bottom floor at the bottom dollar? Keeping in mind I have only passing interest and one source of info and perspective (the Econ'ist), it seems to me that other than Kyocera and a few other newer big companies the Olde Boyz are all floating knee deep in their own sewage paddling desperately for a safe harbour in their badly leaking boats.

The Japanese government said Tuesday that Mitsubishi Motors Corp. overstated mileage on its vehicles by up to 16 percent, but stopped short of slapping further penalties on the company.

.....

Mitsubishi Motors said last week that it will give 100,000 yen ($960) to each Japanese owner of a car with a false mileage claim to compensate for the extra gas costs and for inflating the mileage figure.

I really don't get this. It is common knowledge you do not get the mileage claimed on the spec sheet. I've ridden numerous motorcycles & driven many cars and have always know it was a myth. My little Honda XR250 claims a fuel consumption of 40k/l at 60kph with the disclaimer that this is under test conditions and may vary according to road conditions etc, ie, you know and the maker knows this number is bullshit.

So why the big scandal now, surely this applies to every car and motorcycle on the road.

I think the difference in this case is that there are tax concessions made for vehicles of a certain consumption rate, and there may be a reassessment of past and future taxes. But basically, tossing money at past customers is just another of many ways to indicate an apology.

Because they actually, you know, lied about the conditions under which the car was tested - The tyres were inflated more than they said they were.
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Those tests are what are required by regulators so it's not as simple as companies lying for marketing purposes.

Does that mean it is actually possible to get 40k/l out of my bike? I get around 27 when I am in the countryside with little traffic, and few junctions.

I always assumed they just ran the engine in a vague vicinity of some asphalt.

But I understand a little better now thank you, the spec claims had graduated from bullshit with a disclaimer to actual deception.

All good and well, but my STPWGN gets the mileage claimed by Honda if I drive carefully.

Then again, the claimed numbers are not very good to begin with.

gotcha, it's ok to lie to joe public parting with his hard earned credit rating, but nor to the regulator.

Throttle crazy a bit much? That's waaay too far off. Either the way you ride or something is wrong with the bike....

My rebadged opel minivan is rated at 11km/l by the J-gov. Even with 160,000km on it, I'm getting 12-14km/l with iridium plugs, regular maintenance, and smooth driving.
