2 killed as girder falls from Kobe expressway

Two people were killed when a 120-meter-long bridge girder fell from a height of about 20 meters Friday afternoon at a construction site on the Shin-Meishin Expressway in Kita Ward, Kobe.

The accident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Friday. According to the Kobe fire department, two people were killed and eight people were injured, some seriously.

All are believed to be construction workers at the site.
