Yes. Very efficient, fast, reliable and flexible. Huge volumes and masses can be moved surprisingly quickly.

That stuff all needs to be stacked on a pallet, wrapped, and loaded for the trip...I can see it being efficient in other situations but just seems like pointless busywork in this case.

Isn't Kita-Kyushu City one of the big 3-11 debris incineration centers? All the young families that moved down south here from Fukushima and surrounding areas say to avoid it like the plague.

seems like some ditches in matsudo city, chiba pref. are more contaminated by radioactivity even than fukushima.
ea38e_973_d6cf9d51_87bc65f7.jpg

(respectively translate yourself)
as are inba swamp, tega swamp and ushiku swamp in tochigi and chiba pref.

Not "safe," but certainly "safer" when there are no nuclear reactions underway.

There will be reactions anyway, but the neutrons will be absorbed (more) by the control rods when the reactor is shut down. The Fukushima reactors were actually shut down directly after the quake, but it did not prevent meltdown. Actually, it can be argued that there would not have been meltdowns if the reactors would not have been shut down, because they would have been able to continue to supply electricity to the pumps that were supposed to remove the sea water from the tsunami.

Anyway, you are not the only one questioning the current policy regarding the Sendai plant:

Despite assurances, quakes prompt calls to switch off Japan’s nuclear reactors

I am mostly worried, though, about the storage pools at the nuke plants on and around Kyushu.

Whichever way you put it...
Even if a plant is believed to be safe in case of quakes.
If you are in the first week of daily quakes without much end in sight.
You shut down the plant even if it's just to protect it for future use.
Keeping them running now would be like speeding toward a pileup saying "it's ok we got seat belts and airbags" (hopefully not takata)
The country was run for month without nukaplants. Even if it cost more, the outlook of not losing the powerplant and not completely killing any possible rational argument toward nukular use in criminally unstable seismic region would be a win.
Meanwhile the krauts and US continue to run more and more stuff with solar power despite most sad clowns assuring us that it is impossible.

And no escape from American date formats...

Take's sauce. An interesting site overall.

The most boring part of Hokkaido is, as Russell notes, safe. Safer than most major cities on the US Pacific coast. So is the part of the Kurile Islands the Russians wont give back (Just kidding)

Isn't the dawn of history the same as "when we started writing stuff down?" The record in 679AD consists of reports of the size of the crack that opened up, the landslips (with an amusing episode) and the fact that new hot springs started. From that they have guessed magnitude and shindo.

have thought fix it in the next log on. but well, thx.

and why hokkido is relatively peaceful is
特に歴史地震においては、山間部・離島などの集落が少なかった、または存在しなかった地域の震度情報が残っていないことが多いため、この地図の震度が最大震度ではない可能性が十分あります(例えば北海道は200年ほどしか記録が残っていません)

there are just the records left for approx only 200 years of hokkaido.

That gives me an idea.

Let's just throw out all the records of past earthquakes, thus resetting all shindos to zero.

At least it'll satisfy Le Coligny...
