Leicester City win the premier league, started the season at 5000 to 1 against.

Is this a fluke or a corner turned in football?

What’s all this then? ask people with no interest in football

“But is Everton still the most famous team? Do the players still have moustaches and massive curly hair? Which team does Ian Rush play for now?

“I know who Gary Lineker is, if that helps.”

Well obviously not moustaches and massive curly hair, because David Beckham.

I finally got the meaning of your thread title..............
Velly Creva.

Anyways, a great victory for soccer and for humanity, we hope. I fear the FA and the Big Four will find a way to fuck it up, but for now, things are sweet. That's a magnificent accomplishment, and there was some pretty electric soccer in there.

I see a stark contrast between Leicester and Newcastle, and I think the difference is Mr Nasty

im almost a soccer amateur, who just did it in my early to middle teen days. but its clear that the soccer style of english premier league is not so elegant as spanish league and also not at world level.

hard to call it English soccer since so many of the players are foreign

I think it's the weather that affects the style of play, cold & wet.

That too, though I think simple English conservatism can explain a lot of the tactics and style. Not to mention that Spanish league football is well known as a cure for insomnia, with all its pointless circular passing and constant possession strategies that could make even a full soccer stats nerd cry in frustration at the sublime masturbatory abilities of players that still think leather shoelaces can also be headgear. The only real Spanish matches worth watching are the big few playing each other and the CL games. Real Madrid does at least move the ball forward, and aren't as stylishly soporific as Barcelona, but pound for pound and week in week out the EPL is a vastly more entertaining style. Internationally, obviously, England is barely a second tier team anymore. Never mind 1966, they could barely keep up with any of the 80s Lineker et al or 90s-noughties Beckham/Scholes/Owens teams. There is something rotten in the state of Wembley my friends.

Not that I know anything about football but according to the pundits on Radio 5 it's exactly because the EPL is so successful and so well funded. The clubs won't give up their players for a moment more than necessary and the players understand that their orders are to get it over with as quickly as possible and get back, uninjured, to their very very lucrative day job ASAP. Or else. Hardly surprising then that when they come up against good and highly committed teams they duly lose.

That's an interesting theory. A bit too cynical conspiratorial for me, but I could see it being a factor, and judging by the way they played last World Cup they were more than ready to throw games. Club soccer is actually much, much better than any international tourney except for a very few teams, which really only makes sense, but the inner flag wavers still seem to think it's the bigger prize. I enjoyed watching Germany blitzkrieg Brazil last time, especially since it was in Brazil, but as usual the final was a snoozer for much of it, though much better than it has been of late, and a player on the losing side that didn't nearly deserve it won the Best Player Award to ensure boot and jersey sales weren't adversely affected by the wrong team winning. I wonder if English fans themselves aren't satisfied enough with the quality of the EPL and don't get too excited when England lose again. Badly. Plus it does give them something to moan about

There are murmurings of a doping scandal in professional football waiting to burst.

English football has always been filled with dopes.
I used to prefer football when the best of English thuggery was allowed to go at it unbridled like true English "gentlemen."
One shining light of the English game is that the spectators aren't encouraged to throw bananas at the black players.
And the Poms are still too scared to take on the Socceroos!

from 10:11 the scene when okazaki hold up the trophy was apparently cut on purpose.
typical englishmens underhand way of racism. "no no! its just a accident! yea believe me yea  " they seemed to do the same thing with korean park jisung when man utd won the league. my guess is probably they also wanna do the same with black and muslim players but dont. why? because they are afraid it will be political issue. but they dont need to be in case of asian. what a bunch of sneaky doubletongued fellows. but this case can justify me to bully enlgish guys living in japan.
and i am very pleased with a muslim guy got the seat of london mayer. its a historical accomplishment extremely equal to establishmnt of Norman dynasty.

Then why did they show him getting his medal?

It's just editing, they probably cut out other players completely.

There are 11 -players on a football team. Tacky, are you really trying to say that they showed 10 of them holding up the cup but not Okazaki? Or did they show a few as part of telling the story and as it happens the cut happened just before Okazaki's turn. Okazaki did actually appear in those shots but in fact not every other player did.

Japan's answer to Debito indeed.
