Travelocity shows a Thai Airways flight (#773 LAX-NRT & #772 NRT-LAX) for $542. 8O

That's insane. It's going to cost me $504 (unless I get a better deal from a travel agent) to fly from Seoul to Tokyo and back. How the hell is the cost difference of an additional 16+ hours of flight time only $38?!?

Los Angeles to Narita

Postby Mini_B » Wed Dec 10, 2003 11:37 am

I use a company in LA called AMNET. They hook me up with tickets on Korean Air for about $520 roundtrip.

Korean Airlines consistently runs cheap flights between LA and Narita. They're not the greatest airline - I think of them as a kind of poor man's JAL - but you can't beat the cost. Sometimes United also has good deals on RT flights as well. If you're going during the peak holiday season, you can forget about cheap fares, regardless of the airline.

JAL bites the big one !!!

Postby Mini_B » Thu Jan 01, 2004 10:58 am

I usually fly with Korean Air from LAX...but I was unable to book them out of Canada where I recently spent my winter holiday. I will never, ever fly with JAL again.

- I requested a window seat and confirmed it via phone...but I got an aisle.

- The service sucked, the food sucked...and the girls were busted looking.

- Overpriced

- Late departing due to mechanical problem

- It took over an hour to get my luggage after I cleared immigration

- The was poop floating in the toilets (in more than one toilet)

I suggest Korean Air over JAL any day!

Mini_B must have been on a bum JAL flight. I've flown every airline from Tokyo to LA - Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, the u.s. ones, ANA...used to take whatever was cheapest. But then I took JAL and never went back. It was so much better and worth a few extra bucks, in my experience (besides, getting all the miles on one airline and getting the free trip eventually offset the little extra I paid each time). As for the flight attendants, I used to teach some amazing women from ANA but the JAL women on my flights even surpased them.

If you fly today or tomorrow, you're going to get Sake on the flight and you can keep the wooden "bowl" thing you drink it out of which is kind of cool.

Which airline (international flights) offer the best leg room, space, and farthest reclining capabilities?

Just wondering for my next flight.

What airline? I found that Vietnam Airlines was very good, if you pick the right day of the week you'll find yourself on a JAL plane with your personal selection of (mostly bad) movies to choose from, at quite a bit lower than the JAL price.

Vietnam Airlines plane - code share with JAL.

Food average but I swear the flight attendants are nearly as cranky as the ones on Qantas.

No personal entertainment system - just small, overhead TV's which were not working on the way over. I couldn't read on the way home as the lights weren't working on my row either. But it was better for the poor folks behind me that had their lights on all night.

But I was on holiday so nothing was bringing me down. First holiday I have had in a long time...

Virgin, when you get upgraded to upper class and find that you're sharing the cabin with a group of models. Plus a free massage. :D

THANx! I just about went insane on my United 747-400 flight and now I see why. The seat pitch on a B747-400 of United Airlines is 31 inches, but trouser inseam is 33 inches. Those 2 inches were removed from my knees during the 11+ hour flight from Chicago. Arrrrg.

EXAMPLE of my problems from http://www.westernair.co.uk/seatpitch.html

31 x17(B747-400) United Airlines

31-32x17.2(B747-400) NorthWorst Airlines

34x17.3(B747-400) Malaysian Airlines

33-34(B747-400) Korean Airlines

34 (B747-400) ANA

34 (B747-400) Thai Airlines

31-33x17-18(B767-400ER) Delta Air Lines

Note:
30 x 17.2 (B747-400) means that on a Boeing 747-400 the seat pitch is 30 inches and the seat width is 17.2 inches.

Yeah, I can imagine it is hellish.. I don't know why they don't make special seating for taller or larger customers.. other than first class or business class. Why not have a premium class where you pay 5-10% more than economy for more leg?
