English speaking hearing doctors

Postby Cyka UchuuJin » Thu Jun 09, 2016 7:27 am

Yes, this UchuuJin is getting old and finally has to admit that I need hearing aids. Can anyone recommend someone in the Akasaka-ish area? My eye doctor strangely has a hearing test machine, but then tried to sell me hearing aids that cost almost 1 million yen (made in Denmark!!!). I don't care how big and ugly they are, I just need to hear. I'm on the NHI, where do the old people go for these???

Not the answer to your question. But for a starting price around 1500y 1000y might be worth giving it a try.

This one with 59 reviews and a rating of 4.9/5 seems quite a good pick:

generally the locals go to the eye doctor if they care enough to get one, most don't and just shout "naaaaa-niiiiiii?" over and over until you give up.

If they're going to their eye doctor for hearing problems it might explain why so many of them do that.

English speaking hearing doctors

Postby Mike Oxlong » Thu Jun 09, 2016 10:02 am

AFAIK you can visit the local ear-nose-throat specialist and have your hearing checked. Jibika or some such jibberish in the local tongue.

What he said...

It's called 耳鼻咽喉科 or Jibiinkōka if you believe Google. You have choices, find a good hospital and wait for hours first visit, or a shit one and never get cured
I assume they prescribe hearing aids and not just medicine

the reason to get deafness in spite of being not so old is mostly excessive obesity. just make the cow-like butt shrink before buying useless expensive gadgets.

Super Megane had a hearing test machine and they sell hearing aids. They fitted me with teeny tiny ones that could be controlled by iPhone I was so excited that I practically threw my credit card at him.

Then he told me they cost 995.000JPY. No lie. nearly a million yen. and they were made in denmark ffs.

If you want quality medical care in English, go to St. Luke's.

I'd take a look at a university hospital. They are usually well equipped, don't use an eye doctor to check on your ears and mostly have staff that speaks enough English. Bring a thiiiiick book, though, you might have to wait a little every step along the way.

This is my advice as well. For the basic stuff, I have the local clinic jiji trained to just give whatever I ask for. Everything else, University Hospital my friend works at. (sometimes she is able to just grab what I need for me...they are surprisingly lenient when it comes to self medicating)

as always, thank you all (except for takabigshitchanpoo). have ordered an inexpensive pair off amazon to get the feel for it and hopefully resolve the problem temporarily while i get in to see someone at the university hospital. it took nearly 5 years to try getting into the danish specialist, so i'm well equipped with medical patience... (yeah, i went there...)

I am all for tolerance, but really..............what's the point of letting Chad keep it up for this long? The reason he's twice divorced and still teaching at the YWCA is because he couldn't, after all.

Ban him.

Good luck, Cheeks.

There was likely a different cause, but in that case it was good that she went to the eye doctor anyway...

I believe, it should be a big difference, though, if you get a qualified hearing aid acoustician to fit one for your exact situation.

If you're in Japan, try switching on the TV. If it drives you crazy, stay at home. That's what I do. Mind you most of my TV viewing consists of a) Teletubbies and b) the Youtube birdsong Mrs. Yanpa prefers to stream from her laptop in preference to the latter and Japanese mainstream TV, so I might not be best qualified to judge.
