Let's Safety! Pour More Concrete!

Postby Captain Japan » Fri Jan 09, 2004 3:22 pm

(Kyodo) Friday January 9, 12:19 PM
3-quarters of wooden houses in Japan not quake-resistant

I wish I made up the name of the organization that did this study because that is positively beautiful...but I didn't.

Kyodo wrote:Nearly three out of four wooden houses in Japan are unlikely to withstand a major earthquake, a survey by a government-authorized association showed Friday. The survey, conducted by the Japan Wooden Housing Earthquake Resistance Enhancement Construction Contractors Association, looked at 74,327 wooden houses nationwide in the six-year period since 1998.

I'll bet their board meetings are a hoot!

"I hereby call to order this meeting of the J.W.H.E.R.E.C.C.A."

Funny how one could also read that as "Japan, where concrete conquers all."

(Well, maybe if you squint and look at it just right.)

"Let's Safety! Pour More Concrete!" Maybe the J.W.H.E.R.E.C.C.A. should try to promote real Japanese castles of traditional wood rather than all the fake ones made of only concrete.
