Japanese LAN cards in English OS Windows machines?

Hello:

A friend of mine wants to put one of those cheap (Y800) Buffalo PCI LAN cards in his English Windows machine. Does anyone know if there are any 'issues' with installing the Japanese driver?

And, if there are problems, is there a local source for English-compatible cards?

If he is using xp or at least something similar theu usualy run on a generic realtek driver. if it dont work just count you losses,

Most manufactures even the cheap ones will have multilingual support if they sell cards in different countries. The cd may have an internation language pack.

Actually, it's Win98. Sorry I wasn't more specific. Do you mean that there won't be any bad side effects by trying to install the J-driver on an E-system?

Well, that's my concern. I checked Buffalo's U.S. site but they don't sell any PCI cards there. I wonder if there's some good (read: bad) reason they don't sell them....

I bought a buffalo eithernet card for my wifes laptop 2 years ago....and I tried to get it to work on my old laptop (american win98) and it didnt. I never did find a driver.

I never tried it on this laptop (winXP) that I am using now since this has a built eithernet.

sorry for my bad news and bad experience. Works great on her laptop though!!! (but that is japanese windows 98 ) There could be a driver for it for american windows though....but I looked forever when I wanted it to work. Good luck!!

So, my second question remains. Anyone know where to get a PCI LAN card that will work on an English Win system?

By the way, just to be clear, I'm talking about a PCI LAN card, not a PC LAN card, the difference being that a PCI card is the type for desktops--you open the case with a screw driver and install it in one of the PCI slots on the motherboard.

I'll second that disdain for Buffalo products - I've had rather bad experiences with some of their hard drives as well.

As for the PCI card, I bought a couple of IO Data cards from Yodobashi Camera in Shinjuku and installed them in a self-built non-Japanese system (Windows 2000, Chinese version). Had no problems whatsoever.

The IO Data cards ran about 1200 yen I think.


Incidentally, I have nothing but good stuff to say about IO Data hard drives.
